Then cameDavidto Nobto Ahimelechthe priest:and Ahimelechwas afraidat the meetingof David,and saidto him, Why are you alone, and no manwith you?
And Davidsaidto Ahimelechthe priest,The kinghas commandedme a business,and has saidto me, Let no manknowanythingof the businesswhereabout I sendyou, and what I have commandedyou: and I have appointedmy servantsto suchand sucha place.
Now therefore what isunder your hand?giveme fiveloaves of breadin my hand,or what there is present.
And the priestansweredDavid,and said,There is no commonbreadunder my hand,but there ishallowedbread;if the young menhave keptthemselves at leastfrom women.
And Davidansweredthe priest,and saidto him, Of a truthwomenhave been keptfrom us about these threedays,since I came out,and the vesselsof the young menare holy,and the bread is in a mannercommon,yes, though it were sanctifiedthis dayin the vessel.
So the priestgavehim hallowedbread: for there was no breadthere but the showbread,that was takenfrom beforethe LORD,to puthotbreadin the daywhen it was taken away.
Now a certain manof the servantsof Saulwas there that day,detainedbeforethe LORD;and his namewas Doeg,an Edomite,the chiefestof the herdmenthat belonged to Saul.

And Davidsaidto Ahimelech,And is therenothere under your handspearor sword?for I have neither broughtmy swordnor my weaponswith me,because the king’sbusinessrequiredhaste.
And the priestsaid,The swordof Goliaththe Philistine,whom you slewin the valleyof Elah,look, it is here wrappedin a clothbehindthe ephod:if you will takethat, takeit: for there is no othersavethat here.And Davidsaid,There is none like that; giveit me.
And Davidarose,and fledthat dayfor fearof Saul,and wentto Achishthe kingof Gath.
And the servantsof Achishsaidto him, Is not this Davidthe kingof the land?did they not singone to another of himin dances,saying,Saulhas slainhis thousands,and Davidhis ten thousands?
And David laid up these words in his heart, and was greatly afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
And he changedhis behaviorbeforethem, and feigned himself madin their hands,and scrabbledon the doorsof the gate,and let his spittlefall downupon his beard.
Then said Achish to his servants, Look, you see the man is mad: why then have you brought him to me?
Have I needof mad men,that you have broughtthis fellow to play the mad manin my presence? shall this fellow comeinto my house?
