The Lantern

Psalms68

To the choirmaster. Of David. A psalm. A song. Let God rise; let his enemies scatter, and let those who hate him flee from his face.

God’s Enemies Are Scattered

As smoke is driven away, so drive them away; as wax melts before fire, let the wicked perish before God.

But the righteous will be glad; they will exult before God and rejoice with gladness.

Sing to God, make music to his name; lift up a highway for the one who rides through the deserts — the LORD is his name — and exult before him.

A father of the fatherless and a judge of widows is God in his holy dwelling.

God settles the solitary in a home; he brings out prisoners into prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a scorched land.

God, when you went out before your people, when you marched through the wasteland — Selah —

the earth quaked; the heavens also dripped before God — this Sinai — before God, the God of Israel.

A rain of free gifts you shed abroad, God; your inheritance, and when it was weary, you yourself established it.

Your living creatures dwelt in it; in your goodness you prepared it for the afflicted, God.

The Lord gives the word; the women who bring the news are a great army.

Kings of armies flee, they flee, and she who stays at home divides the spoil.

Though you lie down among the sheepfolds, the wings of a dove are covered with silver, and her pinions with green gold.

When the Almighty scattered kings in it, it snowed on Zalmon.

A mountain of God is the mountain of Bashan; a mountain of many peaks is the mountain of Bashan.

Why do you look with envy, you many-peaked mountains, at the mountain God has desired for his dwelling? Indeed, the LORD will dwell there forever.

The chariots of God are twice ten thousand, thousands upon thousands; the Lord is among them — Sinai in the sanctuary.

You have gone up to the height; you have taken captives captive; you have received gifts among mankind — even the rebellious — that the LORD God might dwell there.

Blessed be the Lord, day by day he carries a load for us — the Mighty One, our salvation. Selah.

The Mighty One is for us a God of deliverances, and to the LORD, the Lord, belong the ways out from death.

Surely God will shatter the head of his enemies, the hairy crown of the one who walks about in his guilt.

The Lord has said, “From Bashan I will bring back; I will bring back from the depths of the sea,”

so that you may shatter your foot in blood, the tongue of your dogs having its portion from the enemies.

They have seen your processions, God — the processions of my God, my King, into the sanctuary.

Singers went in front, players behind, in the midst of maidens playing tambourines.

In the assemblies bless God — the LORD, from the fountain of Israel.

There is Benjamin, the youngest, ruling them; the princes of Judah in their throng, the princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.

Your God has commanded your strength; be strong, God, you who have acted for us.

Because of your temple above Jerusalem, kings will bring you a gift.

Rebuke the beast of the reeds, the herd of bulls among the calves of the peoples, trampling on pieces of silver. He has scattered peoples who delight in battles.

Bronze objects will come from Egypt; Cush will hurry to stretch out its hands to God.

Kingdoms of the earth, sing to God; make music to the Lord — Selah —

to the one who rides in the highest heavens of old. See, he gives his voice, a voice of strength.

Give strength to God; his majesty is over Israel, and his strength is in the skies.

Fearful is God from your sanctuaries — the God of Israel, he gives strength and might to the people. Blessed be God!
