The Boundaries of Canaan
And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
“Command the sons of Israel, and say to them: When you come into the land of Canaan — this is the land that shall fall to you as an inheritance, the land of Canaan by its borders —
your south side shall be from the wilderness of Zin along Edom; and your southern border shall be from the end of the Salt Sea, eastward.
And your border shall turn from the south to the ascent of Akrabbim, and pass on to Zin; and its limits shall be south of Kadesh-barnea; and it shall go out to Hazar-addar and pass on to Azmon.
And the border shall turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and its limits shall be at the sea.
And for the western border: the Great Sea shall be your border; this shall be your western border.
And this shall be your northern border: from the Great Sea you shall mark out your line to Mount Hor;
from Mount Hor you shall mark it out to Lebo-hamath, and the limits of the border shall be at Zedad.
And the border shall go out to Ziphron, and its limits shall be at Hazar-enan; this shall be your northern border.
And you shall mark out your eastern border from Hazar-enan to Shepham.
And the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah, east of Ain; and the border shall go down and touch the shoulder of the Sea of Chinnereth, on the east.
And the border shall go down to the Jordan, and its limits shall be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land by its borders all around.”
And Moses commanded the sons of Israel, saying, “This is the land that you shall inherit by lot, which the LORD has commanded to give to the nine tribes and the half-tribe.
For the tribe of the sons of the Reubenites by their fathers’ houses, and the tribe of the sons of the Gadites by their fathers’ houses, have received — and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received — their inheritance:
the two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance across the Jordan from Jericho, eastward, toward the sunrise.”
Leaders to Divide the Land
And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
“These are the names of the men who shall divide the land for you as an inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun.
And you shall take one leader, one leader from each tribe, to divide the land as an inheritance.
And these are the names of the men: for the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;
and for the tribe of the sons of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud;
for the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon;
and for the tribe of the sons of Dan, a leader: Bukki the son of Jogli;
for the sons of Joseph: for the tribe of the sons of Manasseh, a leader: Hanniel the son of Ephod;
and for the tribe of the sons of Ephraim, a leader: Kemuel the son of Shiphtan;
and for the tribe of the sons of Zebulun, a leader: Elizaphan the son of Parnach;
and for the tribe of the sons of Issachar, a leader: Paltiel the son of Azzan;
and for the tribe of the sons of Asher, a leader: Ahihud the son of Shelomi;
and for the tribe of the sons of Naphtali, a leader: Pedahel the son of Ammihud.”
These are the ones whom the LORD commanded to divide the inheritance for the sons of Israel in the land of Canaan.
