The Order of the Camps
And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
“The sons of Israel shall camp each man by his own banner, with the signs of their fathers’ houses; at a distance, around the Tent of Meeting, they shall camp.
And those camping on the east, toward the sunrise: the banner of the camp of Judah, by their hosts; and the leader of the sons of Judah is Nahshon the son of Amminadab,
and his host, those mustered of them: seventy-four thousand six hundred.
And camping next to him: the tribe of Issachar; and the leader of the sons of Issachar is Nethanel the son of Zuar,
and his host, those mustered of it: fifty-four thousand four hundred.
Then the tribe of Zebulun; and the leader of the sons of Zebulun is Eliab the son of Helon,
and his host, those mustered of it: fifty-seven thousand four hundred.
All those mustered of the camp of Judah: one hundred and eighty-six thousand four hundred, by their hosts. They shall set out first.
The banner of the camp of Reuben, southward, by their hosts; and the leader of the sons of Reuben is Elizur the son of Shedeur,
and his host, those mustered of it: forty-six thousand five hundred.
And camping next to him: the tribe of Simeon; and the leader of the sons of Simeon is Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai,
and his host, those mustered of them: fifty-nine thousand three hundred.
Then the tribe of Gad; and the leader of the sons of Gad is Eliasaph the son of Reuel,
and his host, those mustered of them: forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.
All those mustered of the camp of Reuben: one hundred and fifty-one thousand four hundred and fifty, by their hosts. They shall set out second.
Then the Tent of Meeting shall set out, the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camps; as they camp, so they shall set out, each man in his place, by their banners.
The banner of the camp of Ephraim, by their hosts, westward; and the leader of the sons of Ephraim is Elishama the son of Ammihud,
and his host, those mustered of them: forty thousand five hundred.
And next to him the tribe of Manasseh; and the leader of the sons of Manasseh is Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur,
and his host, those mustered of them: thirty-two thousand two hundred.
Then the tribe of Benjamin; and the leader of the sons of Benjamin is Abidan the son of Gideoni,
and his host, those mustered of them: thirty-five thousand four hundred.
All those mustered of the camp of Ephraim: one hundred and eight thousand one hundred, by their hosts. They shall set out third.
The banner of the camp of Dan, northward, by their hosts; and the leader of the sons of Dan is Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai,
and his host, those mustered of them: sixty-two thousand seven hundred.
And camping next to him: the tribe of Asher; and the leader of the sons of Asher is Pagiel the son of Ocran,
and his host, those mustered of them: forty-one thousand five hundred.
Then the tribe of Naphtali; and the leader of the sons of Naphtali is Ahira the son of Enan,
and his host, those mustered of them: fifty-three thousand four hundred.
All those mustered of the camp of Dan: one hundred and fifty-seven thousand six hundred. They shall set out last, by their banners.”
These are those mustered of the sons of Israel by their fathers’ houses; all those mustered of the camps, by their hosts: six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.
But the Levites were not mustered among the sons of Israel, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And the sons of Israel did according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses: so they camped by their banners, and so they set out, each man by his families, by his fathers’ house.
