Jerusalem’s New Settlers
And the officers of the people settled in Jerusalem. And the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to settle in Jerusalem, the holy city, and nine parts in the cities.
And the people blessed all the men who freely offered themselves to settle in Jerusalem.
And these are the heads of the province who settled in Jerusalem — and in the cities of Judah each settled in his own possession, in their cities: Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the temple servants, and the sons of Solomon’s servants.
And in Jerusalem settled some of the sons of Judah and some of the sons of Benjamin. Of the sons of Judah: Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel, of the sons of Perez;
and Maaseiah the son of Baruch, the son of Col-hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of the Shilonite.
All the sons of Perez who settled in Jerusalem were four hundred and sixty-eight men of valor.
And these are the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah;
and after him Gabbai, Sallai — nine hundred and twenty-eight.
And Joel the son of Zichri was overseer over them; and Judah the son of Hassenuah was second over the city.
Of the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, Jachin;
Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the leader of the house of God;
and their brothers who did the work for the house — eight hundred and twenty-two; and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah;
and his brothers, heads of fathers’ houses — two hundred and forty-two; and Amashsai the son of Azarel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer;
and their brothers, mighty men of valor — a hundred and twenty-eight. And the overseer over them was Zabdiel the son of Haggedolim.
And of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni;
and Shabbethai and Jozabad, over the outside work of the house of God, of the heads of the Levites;
and Mattaniah the son of Mica, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, the head who began the thanksgiving at the prayer; and Bakbukiah, second among his brothers; and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.
All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred and eighty-four.
And the gatekeepers: Akkub, Talmon, and their brothers, who kept watch at the gates — a hundred and seventy-two.
Residents Outside Jerusalem
And the rest of Israel, the priests, the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, each in his own inheritance.
And the temple servants were living on the Ophel; and Ziha and Gishpa were over the temple servants.
And the overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mica, of the sons of Asaph, the singers, in front of the work of the house of God.
For the king’s commandment was upon them, and a firm agreement was on the singers, the matter of a day in its day.
And Pethahiah the son of Meshezabel, of the sons of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king’s hand for every matter concerning the people.
And as for the villages with their fields: some of the sons of Judah settled in Kiriath-arba and its daughters, and in Dibon and its daughters, and in Jekabzeel and its villages,
and in Jeshua, and in Moladah, and in Beth-pelet,
and in Hazar-shual, and in Beersheba and its daughters,
and in Ziklag, and in Meconah and in its daughters,
and in En-rimmon, and in Zorah, and in Jarmuth,
Zanoah, Adullam, and their villages, Lachish and its fields, Azekah and its daughters. And they camped from Beersheba as far as the Valley of Hinnom.
And the sons of Benjamin, from Geba: Michmash, and Aija, and Bethel and its daughters,
Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,
Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim,
Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat,
Lod, and Ono, the Valley of the Craftsmen.
And of the Levites, divisions of Judah belonged to Benjamin.
