Matthew24

Temple Destruction and Other Signs

And Jesus, having gone forth from the temple, was going; and His disciples came to Him to point out to Him the buildings of the temple.

And He, answering, said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Amen I say to you, there may not even be left here stone upon stone which will not be thrown down.”

And when He was sitting upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him in private, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what is the sign of Your coming and of the consummation of the age?”

And Jesus, answering, said to them: “Take heed lest anyone may mislead you.

For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I myself am the Christ,’ and they will mislead many.

And you will begin to hear of wars and rumours of wars. Behold, do not be alarmed; for it is necessary to take place, but the end is not yet.

For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

And all these are the beginning of birth pains.

Witnessing to All Nations

Then will they deliver you to tribulation and will kill you; and you will be hated by all the nations on account of My name.

And then many will fall away, and they will betray one another and will hate one another;

and many false prophets will arise and will mislead many.

And because the lawlessness is to be multiplied, the love of the many will grow cold.

But the one having endured to the end, he will be saved.

And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the earth for a testimony to all the nations; and then the end will come.

The Abomination of Desolation

When therefore you may see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place — the one reading, let him understand —

then let those in Judea flee to the mountains;

let the one on the housetop not come down to take the things out of his house;

and let the one in the field not return back to take his cloak.

And woe to those having in the womb and to those nursing infants in those days!

But pray that your flight may not happen in winter nor on a Sabbath.

For there will be then great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until the now, nor may it ever happen.

And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would have been saved; but because of the elect those days will be shortened.

Then if anyone may say to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘Here,’ do not believe it.

For there will arise false Christs and false prophets, and they will give great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.

Behold, I have foretold it to you.

The Return of the Son of Man

If therefore they shall say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go forth; or ‘Behold, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it.

For just as the lightning comes forth from the east and shines until the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

Wherever the carcass shall be, there will the vultures be gathered.

And immediately after the tribulation of those days, ‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.’

And then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven; and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will behold the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

And He will send His angels with a great trumpet call, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from the ends of the heavens until their ends.

The Lesson of the Fig Tree

And from the fig tree learn the parable: when its branch may already become tender and it may put forth the leaves, you know that the summer is near.

Thus also you yourselves, when you may see all these things, know that He is near, at the doors.

Amen I say to you that this generation may certainly not have passed away until all these things may happen.

The heaven and the earth will pass away, but My words may certainly not pass away.

Readiness at Any Hour

But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of the heavens, nor the Son, except the Father alone.

For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until that day Noah entered into the ark,

and they did not know until the flood came and took all away — thus also will be the coming of the Son of Man.

Then two will be in the field; one is taken and one is left.

Two women grinding at the mill; one is taken and one is left.

Keep watch therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord comes.

But know this: that if the master of the house had known in what time of night the thief comes, he would have watched and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.

Because of this you yourselves also be ready, for the Son of Man comes in that hour you do not expect.

Who then is the faithful and wise servant whom the master has set over his household, to give them the food in season?

Happy is that servant whom his master, having come, will find thus doing.

Amen I say to you that he will set him over all his possessions.

But if that evil servant shall say in his heart, ‘My master delays,’

and may begin to beat his fellow servants, and may eat and may drink with those being drunkards,

the master of that servant will come in a day in which he does not expect and in an hour which he is not aware,

and will cut him in pieces and will appoint his place with the hypocrites; there will be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.
