Matthew18

The Greatest in the Kingdom

In that hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is the greatest in the kingdom of the heavens?”

And having called a child to Him, He set it in the midst of them

and said: “Amen I say to you, unless you may turn and may become as the little children, you shall certainly not enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

Whoever therefore will humble himself as this little child, he is the greater in the kingdom of the heavens.

And whoever shall receive one such little child in My name receives Me.

Temptations and Trespasses

But whoever may cause to stumble one of these little ones who are believing in Me, it is better for him that a heavy millstone may be hung around his neck and he may be sunk in the depth of the sea.

Woe to the world because of the causes of sin! For the stumbling blocks are necessary to come, but woe to the man through whom the offence comes!

And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; it is better for you to enter into life crippled or lame than, having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the eternal fire.

And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and cast it from you; it is better for you to enter into life one-eyed than, having two eyes, to be cast into the hell of the fire.

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I say to you that their angels in the heavens through all times behold the face of My Father who is in the heavens.

[For the Son of Man came to save those perishing.]

What do you think? If a certain man may have a hundred sheep and one of them shall have gone astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains, and having gone, will he seek the one going astray?

And if he may happen to find it, amen I say to you that he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which have not gone astray.

Thus it is not the will of your Father who is in the heavens that one of these little ones may perish.

A Brother Who Sins

And if your brother shall sin against you, go, reprove him between you and him alone. If he shall hear you, you have gained your brother.

But unless he shall hear, take with you one or two more, that upon the testimony of two or three witnesses every declaration may be strengthened.

And if he shall fail to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he shall fail to listen also to the church, let him be to you as the pagan and the tax collector.

Amen I say to you, as much as you shall bind on the earth will have been bound in heaven, and as much as you shall loose on the earth will have been loosed in heaven.

Ask in My Name

Again, amen I say to you that if two of you shall agree on the earth concerning any matter that they shall ask, it will be done for them by My Father who is in the heavens.

For where two or three are assembled unto My name, there am I in the midst of them.”

The Unforgiving Servant

Then Peter, having come, said to Him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me and I will forgive him? Up to seven times?”

Jesus says to him: “I do not say to you up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

Because of this the kingdom of the heavens has become like to a man, a king, who desired to settle accounts with his servants.

And when he was beginning to settle, there was brought to him one debtor of ten thousand talents.

And when he was not having anything to pay, the master commanded him to be sold, and the wife and the children and all as much as he has, and payment to be made.

Having fallen down therefore, the servant was bowing on his knees to him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’

And the master of that servant, having been moved with compassion, released him and forgave him the debt.

But that same servant, having gone out, found one of his fellow servants who was owing him a hundred denarii; and having seized him, he was throttling him, saying, ‘Pay if you owe any.’

Having fallen down therefore, his fellow servant was begging him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you.’

But he was not willing; instead, having gone, he cast him into prison until he may pay what is being owed.

Having seen therefore the things having taken place, his fellow servants were deeply grieved; and having gone, they narrated to their master all that had taken place.

Then his master, having called him, says to him, ‘Evil servant! All that debt I forgave you, because you begged me.

Was it not necessary for you also to have pitied your fellow servant, as I myself also pitied you?’

And his master, having been angry, delivered him to the jailers until he may pay all which is being owed.

Thus also My heavenly Father will do to you, unless each of you may forgive his brother from your heart.”
