The Lantern

Luke24

The Resurrection

However, on the first day of the week, very early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing spices that they had prepared.

Then they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.

However, having entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

And it came to pass, while they perplexing about this, that behold, two men stood by them in dazzling garment.

Then when they were becoming terrified and bowing their faces to the ground, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?

He is not here, but he is risen! Remember how he spoke to you while yet being in Galilee,

saying that the Son of Man it behooves to be delivered into hands of sinful men, and to be crucified, and on the third day to arise.”

And they remembered his declarations,

and having returned from the tomb, they related all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.

Now it was Mary the Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them; they were telling these things to the apostles.

And their declarations appeared before them like folly, and they were not believing in them.

[But Peter, having risen up, he ran to the tomb; and having stooped down, he sees the linen strips alone, and he went away, wondering in himself at that having come to pass.]

The Road to Emmaus

And behold, two of them on that same day were going to a village being distant sixty stadia from Jerusalem, whose name is Emmaus.

And they themselves were talking with one another about all these things which having taken place.

And it came to pass during the talking by them and reasoning, that Jesus himself, having drawn near, he was walking along with them;

but their eyes were held not to know him.

Then he said to them, “What are these words that you exchange with one another, walking?” And they stood still, looking sad.

Now answering, one named Cleopas said to him, “You yourself alone visit Jerusalem and have not known the things having come to pass in it in these days?”

And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a man, a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people;

and then how our chief priests and the rulers delivered him up to the judgment of death and crucified him.

However, we ourselves were hoping that it is he himself who is about to redeem Israel. But indeed also, with all these things, this brings the third day away from which these things came to pass.

However, certain women also out from us amazed us, having been at dawn to the tomb;

and not having found his body, they came declaring also to have seen a vision of angels, who say he is living.

And some of those with us went to the tomb, and found it so, even as also the women said; however, him they did not see.”

And he himself said to them, “O foolish and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets spoke!

Surely it was necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into his glory?”

And having begun from Moses and from all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

And they drew near to the village where they were going, and he himself appeared to be going farther.

And they constrained him, saying, “Abide with us, for it is toward evening and the day has now declined.” And he entered in to abide with them.

And it came to pass during the reclining of him with them, having taken the bread, he blessed it, and having broken it, he was giving it to them.

Then their eyes were opened and they knew him; and he himself vanished from being seen from them.

And they said to one another, “Surely our heart it was burning within us as he was speaking with us on the road, as he was opening to us the Scriptures?”

And having risen up on that same hour, they returned to Jerusalem, and they found the eleven gathered and those with them,

saying that, “Indeed the Lord has risen, and he has appeared to Simon.”

And they themselves were relating the things on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

Now when they are telling these things, he himself stood in midst of them and says to them, “Peace to you.”

However, having been terrified and having been filled with fear, they were thinking themselves to see a spirit.

And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and through why do doubts come up in your heart?

See my hands and my feet, that I myself am he himself; touch me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones, even as you see me myself having.”

[And having said this, he showed to them the hands and the feet.]

Now still while they are disbelieving for the joy and amazement, he said to them, “Have you anything to eat here?”

And they gave to him part of a broiled fish;

and having taken it, he ate it before them.

Now he said to them, “These are my words which I spoke to you while still being with you, that it behooves all things to be fulfilled which written in the law of Moses and in the Prophets and in the Psalms concerning me.”

Then he opened their mind to understand the Scriptures,

and he said to them that, “Thus it has been written: the Christ was to suffer and to rise out from the dead on the third day,

and repentance to forgiveness of sins to be proclaimed in his name to all the nations, having begun from Jerusalem.

You yourselves witnesses of these things.

And behold, I myself am sending the promise of my Father upon you; however, you yourselves remain in the city until that you may be clothed with power from on high.”

The Ascension

Now he led them out until to Bethany, and having lifted up his hands, he blessed them.

And it came to pass during the blessing by him of them, he was separated from them and was carried up into the heaven.

And they themselves, having worshiped him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy,

and were through all times in the temple, blessing God.
