The Lantern

Luke17

Temptations and Trespasses

Then he said to his disciples, “It is impossible that the stumbling blocks not to come, but woe to him through whom they come!

It is better for him if a stone of a mill is hung around his neck and he has been thrown into the sea, than that he may cause to stumble one of these little ones.

Take heed to yourselves. If your brother shall sin, rebuke him; and if he shall repent, forgive him.

And if seven times in the day he shall sin against you, and seven times shall return to you saying, ‘I repent,’ you will forgive him.”

The Power of Faith

And the apostles said to the Lord, “Add faith to us!”

Then the Lord said, “If you have faith like a grain of mustard, then would you have spoken to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and be planted in the sea,’ and it would have obeyed you.

Now which of you, having a servant plowing or shepherding, the one having come in out of the field, will say to him, ‘Immediately, having come, recline’?

But surely he will say to him, ‘Prepare what I may eat, and having girded yourself about, serve me while I may eat and I may drink; and after these things you yourself will eat and will drink’?

Is he thankful to the servant because he did the things having been commanded?

Thus also you yourselves, when you may have done all the things having been commanded you, say that, ‘We are unworthy servants; that which we were obliged to do we have done.’”

The Ten Lepers

And it came to pass in the going up to Jerusalem, that he himself was passing through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

And when he is entering into a certain village, ten leprous men met with him, who stood afar off.

And they themselves lifted up their voice, saying, “Jesus, Master, have compassion on us.”

And having seen them, he said to them, “Having gone, show yourselves to the priests.” And it came to pass, in the going of them, they were cleansed.

Then one of them, having seen that he was healed, turned back with a loud voice glorifying God,

and he fell on his face at his feet, giving thanks to him; and he himself was a Samaritan.

Then having answered, Jesus said, “Surely the ten were cleansed? But the nine are where?

Was there found none having returned to give glory to God, except only this foreigner?”

And he said to him, “Having risen up, go forth; your faith has cured you!”

The Coming of the Kingdom

Now having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God is coming, he answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with careful observation,

nor will they say, ‘Behold here,’ or, ‘There.’ For behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”

Then he said to the disciples, “Days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not behold it.

And they will say to you, ‘Behold there,’ or, ‘Behold here.’ May not go forth, nor may follow.

For as the lightning is flashing from the one end under the sky, shines to the other end under the sky, thus will the Son of Man be in his day.

However, first it behooves him to suffer many things and to be rejected by this generation.

And even as it came to pass in the days of Noah, thus will it be also in the days of the Son of Man:

they were eating, were drinking, were marrying, were being given in marriage, until that day Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed all.

Likewise, even as it came to pass in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building;

then in that day Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed all.

According to these will it be in that day the Son of Man is revealed.

In that very day, the one who will be on the housetop and his goods in the house, he should not come down to take them away; and the one in field likewise should not return to the things back.

Remember the wife of Lot!

Whoever if shall seek to gain his life will lose it, but whoever shall lose will preserve it.

I say to you, in that night there will be two upon one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left.

There will be two women grinding at the same place: the one will be taken, and the other will be left.”

[“Two in a field; one will be taken, and the other will be left.”]

And answering they say to him, “Where, Lord?” And he said to them, “Where the body is, there also the vultures will be gathered.”
