Luke10

Jesus Sends the Seventy-Two

Now after these things the Lord appointed seventy-two others, and sent them two by two before his own face into every city and place where he himself was soon to go.

Then he was saying to them, “The harvest indeed is plentiful, however the workmen are few; pray earnestly therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that he may send out workmen into his harvest.

Go; behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves.

Carry neither purse nor bag nor sandals, and may greet no one on the road.

Now into whatever house you may enter, first say: ‘Peace to this house.’

And if there shall be a son of peace, your peace will rest upon him; however, if not, yet it will return to you.

Now remain in the same house, eating and drinking the things supplied by them; for the workman is worthy of his wages. Do not move from house to house.

And into whatever city you may enter, and they may receive you, eat the things set before you,

and heal the sick in it, and say to them: ‘The kingdom of God has drawn near to you.’

Now into whatever city you may enter, and they may not receive you, having gone out into its streets, say:

‘Even the dust of your city which has clung to us on the feet we wipe off against you; yet know this, that the kingdom of God has drawn near.’

I say to you that in that day it will be more tolerable for Sodom than for that city.

Woe to the Unrepentant

Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles having taken place in you had been in Tyre and Sidon, then long ago sitting in sackcloth and ashes they would have repented.

But for Tyre and for Sidon will it be more tolerable in the judgment than for you.

And you yourself, Capernaum, will you not be lifted up to heaven? To Hades you will be brought down.

The one hearing you hears me, and the one rejecting you rejects me myself; now the one rejecting me myself, he rejects the One having sent me.”

The Joyful Return

Then the seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us through your name.”

Then he said to them, “I was beholding Satan having fallen as lightning out of the heaven.

Behold, I have given you the authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and upon all the power of the enemy; and no thing may certainly not injure you.

Yet do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subjected to you; however, rejoice that your names have been written in the heavens.”

Jesus’ Prayer of Thanksgiving

In the same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I fully consent to you, Father, Lord of the heaven and of the earth, for you have hidden these things from wise and intelligent and revealed them to little children. Yes, O Father, for thus was it well-pleasing before you.

All things was delivered to me by my Father. And no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and to whom the Son shall resolve to reveal him.”

And having turned to the disciples in private, he said, “Happy are the eyes which are seeing what you see!

For I say to you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you yourselves see, and did not see, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear.”

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up, testing him, saying, “Teacher, having done what will I inherit eternal life?”

And he said to him, “In the law what has been written? How do you read?”

And answering he said, “‘You will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind,’ and ‘Your neighbour as yourself.’”

Then he said to him, “Correctly you have answered; perform this, and you will live.”

But desiring to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbour?”

Having taken it up, Jesus said, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among robbers, who both having stripped him and having inflicted wounds went away, having left him half dead.

Now by chance a certain priest was going down on that road, and having seen him, he passed by opposite.

Now likewise also a Levite, having come to the spot, having come and having seen him, passed by opposite.

However, a certain Samaritan journeying came to him, and having seen, was moved with compassion,

and having approached, he bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then having put him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn and took care of him.

And on the next day, having taken out two denarii, he gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you may expend, I myself will repay you on the returning of me.’

Which of these three seems to you to have been a neighbour of the one falling among the robbers?”

And he said, “The one having shown the compassion toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go, and you yourself act likewise.”

Martha and Mary

Now in their proceeding, he himself entered into a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha received him.

And to her there was a sister being called Mary. She also, having sat down at the feet of the Lord, was listening to his word.

But Martha was distracted about much service; now having come up, she said, “Lord, is it not concerning to you that my sister has left me alone to serve? Speak therefore to her, that she may help me!”

Now answering, the Lord said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things;

however, one thing is necessary. For Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
