Leviticus27

Rules about Valuations

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“Speak to the sons of Israel, and say to them: When a man makes a special vow, by your valuation of souls to the LORD,

then your valuation of a male from twenty years old up to sixty years old shall be fifty shekels of silver, by the shekel of the sanctuary.

And if it is a female, then your valuation shall be thirty shekels.

And if from five years old up to twenty years old, then your valuation of the male shall be twenty shekels, and of the female ten shekels.

And if from a month old up to five years old, then your valuation of the male shall be five shekels of silver, and of the female your valuation shall be three shekels of silver.

And if from sixty years old and upward: if a male, your valuation shall be fifteen shekels, and of the female ten shekels.

But if he is too poor for your valuation, then he shall be set before the priest, and the priest shall value him; according to what the hand of the one who vowed can reach, the priest shall value him.

And if it is a beast of which an offering may be brought near to the LORD, all of it that one gives to the LORD shall be holy.

He shall not exchange it, and he shall not substitute for it — good for bad or bad for good; and if he does substitute beast for beast, then both it and its substitute shall be holy.

And if it is any unclean beast, of which an offering may not be brought near to the LORD, then he shall set the beast before the priest,

and the priest shall value it, whether good or bad; as you, the priest, value it, so it shall be.

And if he surely redeems it, then he shall add a fifth of it to your valuation.

And when a man consecrates his house as holy to the LORD, the priest shall value it, whether good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall stand.

And if the one who consecrates it redeems his house, then he shall add a fifth of the silver of your valuation to it, and it shall be his.

And if a man consecrates to the LORD part of the field of his holding, then your valuation shall be according to its seed: a homer of barley seed at fifty shekels of silver.

If he consecrates his field from the year of Jubilee, according to your valuation it shall stand.

But if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, then the priest shall reckon the silver for him according to the years that remain until the year of Jubilee, and it shall be deducted from your valuation.

And if the one who consecrated the field surely redeems it, then he shall add a fifth of the silver of your valuation to it, and it shall stand as his.

But if he does not redeem the field, or if he has sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed anymore;

and the field, when it is released in the Jubilee, shall be holy to the LORD, like a devoted field; its holding shall belong to the priest.

And if he consecrates to the LORD a field he has bought, which is not part of the field of his holding,

then the priest shall reckon for him the amount of your valuation until the year of Jubilee; and he shall give your valuation on that day, as holy to the LORD.

In the year of Jubilee the field shall return to the one from whom he bought it — to the one whose holding of the land it is.

And every valuation of yours shall be by the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs to the shekel.

But a firstborn among beasts, which as a firstborn belongs to the LORD — no man may consecrate it; whether ox or lamb, it is the LORD’s.

And if it is among the unclean beasts, then he shall ransom it at your valuation and add a fifth of it to it; and if it is not redeemed, it shall be sold at your valuation.

But nothing devoted, that a man devotes to the LORD from all that is his — of man, or beast, or the field of his holding — may be sold or redeemed. Everything devoted is a holy of holies to the LORD.

Nothing devoted, that is devoted from among men, may be ransomed; it shall surely be put to death.

Instruction on Tithes

And every tithe of the land — of the seed of the land, of the fruit of the tree — belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.

And if a man surely redeems part of his tithe, he shall add a fifth of it to it.

And every tithe of herd and flock — everything that passes under the shepherd’s rod — the tenth one shall be holy to the LORD.

He shall not examine whether it is good or bad, and he shall not substitute for it; and if he does substitute for it, then both it and its substitute shall be holy — it shall not be redeemed.”

These are the commandments that the LORD commanded Moses for the sons of Israel on Mount Sinai.
