And the sons of Israel again did the evil in the eyes of the LORD — and Ehud was dead.
And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor; and the commander of his army was Sisera, and he lived in Harosheth-hagoyim.
And the sons of Israel cried out to the LORD — for he had nine hundred chariots of iron, and he pressed the sons of Israel hard for twenty years.
And Deborah, a woman, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth — she was judging Israel at that time.
And she would sit under the palm of Deborah, between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the sons of Israel went up to her for judgment.
And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam from Kedesh-naphtali, and said to him: “Has not the LORD, the God of Israel, commanded: Go, and draw toward Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men from the sons of Naphtali and from the sons of Zebulun?
And I will draw to you, to the Brook of Kishon, Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will give him into your hand.”
And Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you do not go with me, I will not go.”
And she said, “I will surely go with you — only there will be no glory for you on the way you are going, for into the hand of a woman the LORD will sell Sisera.” And Deborah rose and went with Barak to Kedesh.
And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali together to Kedesh; and ten thousand men went up at his feet, and Deborah went up with him.
Now Heber the Kenite had separated from the Kenites, from the sons of Hobab, Moses’ father-in-law; and he had pitched his tent as far away as the oak at Zaanannim, which is by Kedesh.
And they told Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to Mount Tabor.
And Sisera called together all his chariots — nine hundred chariots of iron — and all the people who were with him, from Harosheth-hagoyim to the Brook of Kishon.
And Deborah said to Barak: “Rise! For this is the day the LORD has given Sisera into your hand. Has not the LORD gone out before you?” And Barak went down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men after him.
And the LORD threw Sisera into confusion, and all the chariots, and all the camp, by the edge of the sword before Barak; and Sisera got down from the chariot and fled on foot.
And Barak pursued after the chariots and after the camp as far as Harosheth-hagoyim; and all the camp of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword — not even one was left.
Jael Kills Sisera
And Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite — for there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.
And Jael went out to meet Sisera and said to him, “Turn aside, my lord; turn aside to me. Do not fear.” And he turned aside to her, into the tent, and she covered him with a rug.
And he said to her, “Give me, please, a little water to drink, for I am thirsty.” And she opened the skin of milk and gave him a drink, and covered him.
And he said to her, “Stand at the entrance of the tent; and it shall be, if a man comes and asks you, and says, ‘Is there a man here?’ — you shall say, ‘There is not.’”
And Jael, the wife of Heber, took the tent peg, and put the hammer in her hand, and came to him softly, and drove the peg into his temple, and it went down into the ground — for he was fast asleep and weary — and he died.
And look — Barak was pursuing Sisera. And Jael went out to meet him and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man you are seeking.” And he came in to her; and look — Sisera was fallen dead, with the peg in his temple.
And God subdued on that day Jabin king of Canaan before the sons of Israel.
And the hand of the sons of Israel went on, going on and pressing hard against Jabin king of Canaan, until they had cut off Jabin king of Canaan.
