Jude1

A Greeting from Jude

Jude, servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, to those called, loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:

Mercy to you, and peace, and love be multiplied.

God’s Judgment on the Ungodly

Beloved, while making every effort to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you encouraging you to contend for the faith once for all delivered to the holy ones.

For certain men have slipped in, those long ago written down beforehand for this judgment — ungodly ones, changing the grace of our God into sensuality and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

But I want to remind you, though you know all things, that the Lord, having once saved a people out of the land of Egypt, the second time destroyed those who did not believe.

And the angels who did not keep their own domain but left their own dwelling, he has kept in everlasting chains under gloom for the judgment of the great day;

as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, which in like manner to these gave themselves over to sexual immorality and went after other flesh, are set forth as an example, undergoing the penalty of eternal fire.

Yet likewise these dreamers also defile the flesh, and set aside authority, and blaspheme glories.

But Michael the archangel, when disputing with the devil he argued about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring against him a judgment of blasphemy, but said, “May the Lord rebuke you.”

But these blaspheme whatever they do not know; and whatever they understand by instinct, like the irrational animals, in these they are corrupted.

Woe to them! For they went in the way of Cain, and rushed out for reward into the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

These are the hidden reefs in your love feasts, feasting together with you without fear, shepherding themselves; waterless clouds carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, uprooted;

wild waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of darkness has been kept to the age.

And Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied about these, saying, “See, the Lord came with his holy myriads,

to execute judgment against all, and to convict every soul concerning all their works of ungodliness which they did in ungodliness, and concerning all the harsh things which ungodly sinners spoke against him.”

These are grumblers, discontented, going after their own desires; and their mouth speaks swelling words, flattering faces for the sake of profit.

A Call to Persevere

But you, beloved, remember the words spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ,

that they said to you, “At the last time there will be mockers, going after their own desires of ungodlinesses.”

These are the ones who cause divisions, natural, not having the Spirit.

But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

keep yourselves in the love of God, awaiting the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

And have mercy on those who doubt;

and save others, snatching them out of the fire; and have mercy on others with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.

Doxology

Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to set you before his glory blameless with exultation,

to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all the age and now and to all the ages. Amen.
