Joshua13

Lands Yet Unconquered

And Joshua was old, advanced in days; and the LORD said to him: “You are old, advanced in days, and very much of the land remains to be possessed.

This is the land that remains: all the regions of the Philistines, and all the Geshurite —

from the Shihor, which is in front of Egypt, as far as the border of Ekron to the north (it is counted as Canaanite): the five lords of the Philistines — the Gazite, and the Ashdodite, the Ashkelonite, the Gittite, and the Ekronite — and the Avvim;

on the south, all the land of the Canaanite, and Mearah, which belongs to the Sidonians, as far as Aphek, as far as the border of the Amorite;

and the land of the Gebalite, and all Lebanon toward the rising of the sun, from Baal-gad below Mount Hermon as far as the entrance of Hamath.

All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon as far as Misrephoth-maim, all the Sidonians — I myself will dispossess them from before the sons of Israel. Only allot it to Israel as an inheritance, as I have commanded you.

And now, divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.”

The Inheritance East of the Jordan

With it the Reubenite and the Gadite took their inheritance, which Moses gave them across the Jordan to the east, as Moses, the servant of the LORD, gave them:

from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain of Medeba as far as Dibon;

and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorite, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the border of the sons of Ammon;

and Gilead, and the territory of the Geshurite and the Maacathite, and all Mount Hermon, and all Bashan as far as Salecah;

all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned at Ashtaroth and at Edrei — he was left of the remnant of the Rephaim. And Moses struck them and dispossessed them.

But the sons of Israel did not dispossess the Geshurite and the Maacathite; and Geshur and Maacath have lived in the midst of Israel to this day.

Only to the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance: the fire offerings of the LORD, the God of Israel — that is its inheritance, as he spoke to it.

Reuben’s Inheritance

And Moses gave to the tribe of the sons of Reuben, by their families.

And their border was from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain by Medeba:

Heshbon, and all its cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and Beth-baal-meon,

and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,

and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar on the hill of the valley,

and Beth-peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth —

and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorite, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses struck with the leaders of Midian: Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the princes of Sihon who lived in the land.

And Balaam the son of Beor, the diviner, the sons of Israel killed with the sword, among their slain.

And the border of the sons of Reuben was the Jordan and its bank. This is the inheritance of the sons of Reuben by their families — the cities and their villages.

Gad’s Inheritance

And Moses gave to the tribe of Gad, to the sons of Gad, by their families.

And their territory was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the sons of Ammon, as far as Aroer, which is in front of Rabbah;

and from Heshbon as far as Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim, and from Mahanaim as far as the border of Debir;

and in the valley: Beth-haram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon — the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon — with the Jordan as its border, as far as the end of the Sea of Chinnereth, across the Jordan to the east.

This is the inheritance of the sons of Gad by their families — the cities and their villages.

Manasseh’s Eastern Inheritance

And Moses gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh; and it was for the half-tribe of the sons of Manasseh, by their families.

And their territory was from Mahanaim: all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the villages of Jair that are in Bashan — sixty cities;

and half of Gilead, and Ashtaroth and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, for the sons of Machir the son of Manasseh — for half of the sons of Machir, by their families.

These are what Moses gave as inheritance in the plains of Moab, across the Jordan by Jericho, to the east.

But to the tribe of Levi Moses gave no inheritance: the LORD, the God of Israel — he is their inheritance, as he spoke to them.
