And it was, when Jabin king of Hazor heard, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,
and to the kings who were in the north — in the hill country, and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor in the west —
the Canaanite in the east and the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill country, and the Hivite below Hermon, in the land of Mizpah.
And they went out, they and all their camps with them — a people many as the sand that is on the shore of the sea in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.
And all these kings met together; and they came and camped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.
And the LORD said to Joshua: “Do not fear before them, for tomorrow at this time I am giving all of them slain before Israel. Their horses you shall hamstring, and their chariots you shall burn with fire.”
And Joshua came on them suddenly, and all the people of war with him, at the waters of Merom, and they fell on them.
And the LORD gave them into the hand of Israel, and they struck them and pursued them as far as great Sidon, and as far as Misrephoth-maim, and as far as the Valley of Mizpeh to the east; and they struck them until no survivor was left to them.
And Joshua did to them as the LORD had said to him: their horses he hamstrung, and their chariots he burned with fire.
And Joshua turned back at that time and captured Hazor, and struck its king with the sword — for Hazor was formerly the head of all these kingdoms.
And they struck every soul that was in it with the edge of the sword, devoting them to destruction. Nothing that breathed was left; and Hazor he burned with fire.
And all the cities of these kings, and all their kings, Joshua captured; and he struck them with the edge of the sword. He devoted them to destruction, as Moses, the servant of the LORD, had commanded.
Only all the cities standing on their mounds Israel did not burn — except Hazor alone Joshua burned.
And all the spoil of these cities, and the livestock, the sons of Israel plundered for themselves. Only every human they struck with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them; they left nothing that breathed.
As the LORD had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua; and so Joshua did. He did not leave undone a thing of all that the LORD had commanded Moses.
Joshua Takes the Whole Land
And Joshua took all this land: the hill country, and all the Negev, and all the land of Goshen, and the lowland, and the Arabah, and the hill country of Israel and its lowland,
from Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir, as far as Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon below Mount Hermon. And all their kings he captured, and he struck them and put them to death.
Many days Joshua made war with all these kings.
There was not a city that made peace with the sons of Israel except the Hivite, the inhabitants of Gibeon; everything they took in battle.
For it was from the LORD to make their heart strong to meet Israel in battle, so that he might devote them to destruction, so that they would have no plea for mercy — so that he might destroy them, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And Joshua came at that time and cut off the Anakim from the hill country — from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. With their cities Joshua devoted them to destruction.
No Anakim were left in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod did some remain.
And Joshua took all the land, according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses; and Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel, according to their divisions, by their tribes. And the land had rest from war.
