Elihu Recalls God’s Justice
And Elihu answered and said:
Do you count this as judgment? You say, “My righteousness is more than God’s.”
For you say, “What use is it to you? What do I profit more than from my sin?”
I will answer you with words, and your friends with you.
Look at the heavens and see; and behold the clouds, higher than you.
If you have sinned, what do you do to him? And if your transgressions are many, what do you do to him?
If you are righteous, what do you give him? Or what does he take from your hand?
Your wickedness is for a man like yourself, and your righteousness for a son of man.
Because of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; they cry for help from the arm of the many.
But no one says, “Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night;
who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?”
There they cry out, and he does not answer, because of the pride of evil men.
Surely God does not hear emptiness, and the Almighty does not behold it.
How much less when you say you do not behold him — the case is before him, and you must wait for him.
And now, because his anger has not visited, and he has not taken much notice of transgression,
Job opens his mouth with emptiness; without knowledge he multiplies words.
