Jeremiah47

Judgment on the Philistines

That which came as the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza.

Thus says the LORD: See, waters are rising from the north, and they will become an overflowing torrent; and they will overflow the land and its fullness, the city and those dwelling in her. And the men will cry out, and every inhabitant of the land will howl,

at the sound of the stamping of the hooves of his stallions, at the rushing of his chariot, the tumult of his wheels. Fathers do not turn around to their sons, for the slackness of hands,

because of the day that comes to devastate all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every remaining helper. For the LORD is devastating the Philistines, the remnant of the coast of Caphtor.

Baldness has come to Gaza; Ashkelon is silenced, the remnant of their valley. How long will you gash yourself?

Ah, sword of the LORD! How long until you are quiet? Gather yourself into your sheath; rest and be still!

How can it be quiet, when the LORD has commanded it? Against Ashkelon and against the shore of the sea — there he has appointed it.
