Isaiah43

Israel’s Only Savior

And now, thus says the LORD, your Creator, Jacob, and the one who formed you, Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name — you are mine.

When you pass through the waters, I am with you; and through rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through fire, you will not be scorched, and a flame will not burn in you.

For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I have given Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in your place.

Because you are precious in my eyes, you are honored and I myself have loved you; and I give a human in your place, and peoples in place of your soul.

Do not fear, for I am with you. From the east I will bring your seed, and from the west I will gather you.

I will say to the north, Give up! and to the south, Do not hold back! Bring my sons from far off and my daughters from the end of the earth —

everyone called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed, whom I also made.

Bring out a people that is blind and yet has eyes, and deaf ones who yet have ears.

All the nations are gathered together, and peoples are assembled. Who among them can tell this and make us hear the former things? Let them give their witnesses and be shown right; and let them hear and say, It is truth.

You are my witnesses — the utterance of the LORD — and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and trust me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, and after me there will be none.

I, I am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.

I myself told and saved and made it heard, and there was no stranger among you. And you are my witnesses — the utterance of the LORD — and I am God.

Also, from the day I am he, and there is none who delivers from my hand. I work, and who can turn it back?

A Way in the Wilderness

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and I will bring them all down as fugitives, and the Chaldeans in the ships of their singing.

I am the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.

Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea and a path in mighty waters,

who brings out chariot and horse, force and strong one; together they lie down, they do not rise; they are snuffed out, quenched like a wick.

Do not remember the former things, and the things of old do not consider.

See, I am doing a new thing; now it springs up — do you not know it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the wasteland.

The beast of the field will honor me, jackals and daughters of the ostrich, because I have given waters in the wilderness, rivers in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen.

This people I formed for myself; they will recount my praise.

Israel’s Unfaithfulness

But you have not called on me, Jacob, for you have grown weary of me, Israel.

You have not brought me the sheep of your burnt offerings, and with your sacrifices you have not honored me. I have not made you serve with an offering, and I have not wearied you with frankincense.

You have not bought me sweet cane with silver, and with the fat of your sacrifices you have not drenched me. But you have made me serve with your sins; you have wearied me with your iniquities.

I, I am he who wipes out your transgressions for my own sake, and your sins I will not remember.

Remind me; let us go to judgment together. You recount, so that you may be shown right.

Your first father sinned, and your spokesmen transgressed against me.

And I profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and I gave Jacob to destruction and Israel to reviling.
