Isaiah31

Woe to Those Who Rely on Egypt

Ah, those going down to Egypt for help, who lean on horses and trust in chariotry because it is many, and in horsemen because they are very strong — but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, and the LORD they have not sought!

And he too is wise, and he brings evil, and his words he does not take back; and he rises against the house of evildoers and against the help of the workers of iniquity.

And Egypt is human and not God, and their horses flesh and not spirit. And the LORD will stretch out his hand, and the helper will stumble and the helped will fall, and together all of them will come to an end.

For thus the LORD said to me: As a lion growls, a young lion over its prey, when a full band of shepherds is called out against him — at their voice he is not shattered, and at their uproar he does not cower — so the LORD of hosts will come down to war on Mount Zion and on her hill.

Like birds hovering, so the LORD of hosts will shield Jerusalem — shielding and delivering, passing over and rescuing.

Turn back to the one from whom you have gone deep in rebellion, sons of Israel.

For in that day each will reject his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made for you — a sin.

And Assyria will fall by a sword not of a man, and a sword not of a human will devour him; and he will flee before a sword, and his young men will become forced labor.

And his crag will pass away in terror, and his princes will be shattered at the signal — the utterance of the LORD, whose fire is in Zion and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
