I Thessalonians2

Paul’s Ministry

For you yourselves know, brothers, our coming to you, that it has not been in vain;

but having previously suffered and been mistreated, just as you know, in Philippi, we had boldness in our God to speak to you the gospel of God amid much conflict.

For our encouragement is not from error, nor from impurity, nor in trickery;

but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak — not as pleasing men but God, who examines our hearts.

For we were never at any time with a word of flattery, just as you know, nor with a pretext for greed — God is witness —

nor seeking glory from men, neither from you nor from others, though we were able to be a weight as apostles of Christ.

But we became infants among you, as a nursing mother cherishes her own children;

so, yearning for you, we were pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become beloved to us.

For you remember, brothers, our labor and hardship: working night and day so as not to burden any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.

You are witnesses, and God, how holily and righteously and blamelessly we were toward you who believe,

just as you know how, like a father his own children, we were encouraging each one of you and comforting,

and charging, so that you would walk worthily of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.

And because of this we also give thanks to God unceasingly, that having received the word of God by your hearing from us, you accepted not the word of men but, as it truly is, the word of God, which also works in you who believe.

For you became imitators, brothers, of the churches of God that are in Judea in Christ Jesus; for you also suffered these same things from your own countrymen, just as they also did from the Jews,

who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out, and do not please God, and are opposed to all men,

hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they may be saved — so as to fill up their sins always. But the wrath has come upon them to the utmost.

Paul’s Longing to Visit

But we, brothers, having been bereaved of you for the time of an hour — in face, not in heart — were the more abundantly eager to see your face with great desire.

Therefore we wanted to come to you — I, Paul, both once and twice — and Satan hindered us.

For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting? Is it not even you, before our Lord Jesus at his coming?

For you are our glory and joy.
