And Saul spoke to Jonathan his son and to all his servants about putting David to death; but Jonathan, Saul’s son, delighted in David greatly.
And Jonathan told David, saying: “Saul my father is seeking to put you to death. Now then, be on guard in the morning, and stay in a secret place, and hide yourself.
And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak of you to my father; and whatever I see, I will tell you.”
And Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father, and said to him: “Let the king not sin against his servant, against David — for he has not sinned against you, and his deeds have been very good for you.
He put his life in his hand and struck down the Philistine, and the LORD worked a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it, and you rejoiced. So why would you sin against innocent blood, to put David to death without cause?”
And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan; and Saul swore, “As the LORD lives, he shall not be put to death.”
And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan told him all these words; and Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as in times past.
And there was war again; and David went out and fought against the Philistines, and struck them with a great blow, and they fled from before him.
And an evil spirit of the LORD came on Saul as he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand; and David was playing with his hand.
And Saul sought to strike David through with the spear into the wall, but he slipped away from before Saul, and he struck the spear into the wall. And David fled and escaped that night.
And Saul sent messengers to David’s house to watch him, and to put him to death in the morning. And Michal his wife told David, saying, “If you do not save your life tonight, tomorrow you will be put to death.”
And Michal let David down through the window; and he went, and fled, and escaped.
And Michal took the teraphim and laid it on the bed, and put a quilt of goats’ hair at its head, and covered it with a garment.
And Saul sent messengers to take David; and she said, “He is sick.”
And Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, “Bring him up to me in the bed, to put him to death.”
And the messengers came — and look, the teraphim on the bed, with the quilt of goats’ hair at its head.
And Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me like this, and sent my enemy away, so that he escaped?” And Michal said to Saul, “He said to me, ‘Send me away. Why should I put you to death?’”
Now David had fled and escaped, and he came to Samuel at Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him; and he and Samuel went and stayed at Naioth.
And it was told to Saul, saying, “Look — David is at Naioth in Ramah.”
And Saul sent messengers to take David. And they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, with Samuel standing as head over them; and the spirit of God came on the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.
And they told Saul, and he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. And Saul sent messengers again, a third time, and they also prophesied.
Then he also went himself to Ramah, and came as far as the great cistern that is at Secu; and he asked and said, “Where are Samuel and David?” And one said, “Look — at Naioth in Ramah.”
And he went there, to Naioth in Ramah; and the spirit of God came on him — even on him — and he walked on, prophesying, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.
And he also stripped off his garments, and he also prophesied before Samuel, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Therefore they say, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
