I Corinthians4

Servants of Christ

So let a man regard us as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

In this case, moreover, it is required in the stewards that one may be found faithful.

But to me it is the smallest matter that I may be examined by you or by a human court; in fact, neither do I examine myself.

For I have been conscious of nothing against myself, yet by this I have not been justified; but the one judging me is the Lord.

So then do not judge anything before the time, until the Lord may have come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will make manifest the motives of the hearts; and then the praise will come to each from God.

Now these things, brothers, I have applied to myself and Apollos on account of you, so that in us you may learn the not beyond what has been written, that no one be puffed up for the one over the other.

For who makes you different? And what have you which you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as not having received it?

Already you are satiated, already you have been enriched, apart from us you reigned — and I wish that you really did reign, so that we ourselves also may reign with you.

For I think God has exhibited us the apostles last, as appointed to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.

We ourselves are fools on account of Christ, but you yourselves wise in Christ; we ourselves weak, but you yourselves strong; you yourselves honored, but we ourselves without honor.

As far as the present hour we both hunger and thirst and are poorly clad and are buffeted and wander homeless,

and we toil, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure;

being defamed, we entreat. As the scum of the world we have become, the refuse of all, until now.

Paul’s Fatherly Warning

Not shaming you do I write these things, but as my beloved children admonishing you.

For if you shall have ten thousand guardians in Christ, yet not many fathers; for in Christ Jesus through the gospel I myself begot you.

I encourage you therefore, become imitators of me.

On account of this I sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways that are in Christ Jesus, even as everywhere in every church I teach.

Now as to my not coming to you, some were puffed up;

but I will come to you soon, if the Lord wishes, and I will find out not the talk of those puffed up but the power.

For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.

What do you desire? With a rod may I come to you, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?
