I Chronicles29

Offerings for the Temple

And David the king said to all the assembly: “Solomon my son, the one whom God has chosen, is young and tender — and the work is great; for the palace is not for a human, but for the LORD God.

And with all my strength I have prepared for the house of my God: the gold for the gold, and the silver for the silver, and the bronze for the bronze, the iron for the iron, and the wood for the wood; onyx stones, and stones for setting, stones of antimony, and stones of many colors, and every precious stone, and stones of alabaster in abundance.

And besides — because of my delight in the house of my God, I have a treasure of my own, gold and silver; I have given it to the house of my God, over and above all I have prepared for the holy house:

three thousand talents of gold, from the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, for overlaying the walls of the houses;

the gold for the gold, and the silver for the silver, and for all the work by the hand of craftsmen. And who is willing to fill his hand today for the LORD?”

And the commanders of the fathers, and the commanders of the tribes of Israel, and the commanders of the thousands and the hundreds, and the commanders of the work of the king, gave willingly.

And they gave for the service of the house of God: gold, five thousand talents and ten thousand darics; and silver, ten thousand talents; and bronze, eighteen thousand talents; and iron, a hundred thousand talents.

And whoever had stones with him gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, into the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.

And the people rejoiced over their willing giving — for with a whole heart they gave willingly to the LORD; and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

David’s Prayer of Blessing

And David blessed the LORD in the eyes of all the assembly; and David said: “Blessed are you, LORD, the God of Israel our father, from everlasting to everlasting.

Yours, LORD, is the greatness, and the might, and the splendor, and the endurance, and the majesty — for all that is in the heavens and in the earth. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom, and you are exalted as head over all.

And the riches and the honor are from before you, and you rule over all; and in your hand are power and might; and in your hand it is to make great, and to give strength to all.

And now, our God, we give thanks to you, and praise your splendid name.

For who am I, and who are my people, that we should retain the strength to give willingly like this? For everything is from you — and from your own hand we have given to you.

For we are foreigners before you, and settlers, like all our fathers; like the shadow are our days on the earth — and there is no hope of staying.

LORD our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy name — from your own hand it is, and everything is yours.

And I know, my God, that you test the heart, and are pleased with upright things. I, in the uprightness of my heart, have willingly given all these; and now your people, found here — I have seen them giving willingly to you, with joy.

LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel our fathers — keep this forever, this shape of the thoughts of the heart of your people; and set their heart firmly toward you.

And to Solomon my son give a whole heart, to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, and to do it all — and to build the palace for which I have made preparation.”

And David said to all the assembly, “Bless the LORD your God!” And all the assembly blessed the LORD, the God of their fathers; and they bowed low and prostrated themselves to the LORD, and to the king.

Solomon Anointed King

And they sacrificed sacrifices to the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings to the LORD on the next day: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings — and sacrifices in abundance, for all Israel.

And they ate and drank before the LORD on that day with great joy. And they made Solomon the son of David king a second time; and they anointed him for the LORD as leader, and Zadok as priest.

And Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king, in place of David his father; and he prospered, and all Israel listened to him.

And all the officials, and the mighty men, and also all the sons of King David, gave their hand under Solomon the king.

And the LORD made Solomon exceedingly great in the eyes of all Israel; and he put on him a royal majesty such as had not been on any king before him over Israel.

David’s Reign and Death

And David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.

And the days that he reigned over Israel were forty years: in Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three.

And he died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor; and Solomon his son became king in his place.

And the acts of David the king, the first and the last — look, they are written in the records of Samuel the seer, and in the records of Nathan the prophet, and in the records of Gad the seer,

with all his reign and his might, and the times that passed over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the lands.
