I Chronicles16

A Tent for the Ark

And they brought in the ark of God and set it in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it; and they brought near burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.

And David finished offering up the burnt offering and the peace offerings; and he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.

And he distributed to every man of Israel, from man to woman — to each a round loaf of bread, and a date cake, and a raisin cake.

And he set before the ark of the LORD some of the Levites as ministers — to invoke, and to give thanks, and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel:

Asaph the head, and second to him Zechariah; Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel, with instruments of harps and with lyres; and Asaph sounding aloud with the cymbals;

and Benaiah and Jahaziel, the priests, with trumpets continually, before the ark of the covenant of God.

David’s Psalm of Thanksgiving

On that day — then — David first appointed the giving of thanks to the LORD by the hand of Asaph and his brothers:

Give thanks to the LORD! Call on his name; make known his deeds among the peoples.

Sing to him, make music to him; tell of all his wonders.

Glory in his holy name; let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his face continually.

Remember his wonders that he has done, his signs, and the judgments of his mouth,

O seed of Israel his servant, sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.

He is the LORD our God; in all the earth are his judgments.

Remember his covenant forever — the word he commanded to a thousand generations —

which he cut with Abraham, and his oath to Isaac;

and he made it stand for Jacob as a statute, for Israel an everlasting covenant,

saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan, the measured portion of your inheritance” —

when you were few in number, hardly any, and foreigners in it.

And they walked from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people.

He allowed no man to oppress them; and he rebuked kings on their account:

“Do not touch my anointed ones, and do my prophets no harm.”

Sing to the LORD, All the Earth

Sing to the LORD, all the earth; bring the news of his salvation from day to day.

Recount his glory among the nations, his wonders among all the peoples.

For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and he is to be feared above all gods.

For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols — but the LORD made the heavens.

Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his place.

Give to the LORD, O families of the peoples, give to the LORD glory and strength.

Give to the LORD the glory of his name; carry an offering and come before him; bow down to the LORD in the splendor of holiness.

Writhe before him, all the earth. Yes, the world stands firm — it shall not be shaken.

Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; and let them say among the nations, “The LORD reigns!”

Let the sea thunder, and its fullness; let the field exult, and all that is in it.

Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD — for he is coming to judge the earth.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good — for his loyal love is forever.

And say: “Save us, God of our salvation; gather us and deliver us from the nations, to give thanks to your holy name, to triumph in your praise.”

Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. And all the people said, “Amen!” — and praised the LORD.

Worship before the Ark

And he left there, before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, Asaph and his brothers, to minister before the ark continually, each day’s portion in its day;

and Obed-edom and their brothers — sixty-eight; and Obed-edom the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah, as gatekeepers;

and Zadok the priest, and his brothers the priests, before the dwelling place of the LORD at the high place that was at Gibeon,

to offer up burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of the burnt offering continually, morning and evening — and for all that is written in the instruction of the LORD, which he commanded concerning Israel;

and with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest of the chosen, who were designated by name, to give thanks to the LORD — for his loyal love is forever;

and with them, Heman and Jeduthun had trumpets and cymbals for sounding aloud, and the instruments for the song of God; and the sons of Jeduthun were for the gate.

And all the people went, each man to his house; and David turned around to bless his house.
