David’s Triumphs
And it was afterward that David struck the Philistines and subdued them; and David took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines.
And he struck Moab, and measured them with a cord, making them lie down on the ground: he measured two cords to put to death, and one full cord to keep alive. And Moab became servants to David, bearers of tribute.
And David struck Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to restore his hand at the river Euphrates.
And David captured from him a thousand seven hundred horsemen and twenty thousand foot soldiers; and David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but left of them a hundred chariots’ worth.
And Aram of Damascus came to help Hadadezer, king of Zobah; and David struck down of Aram twenty-two thousand men.
And David set garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and Aram became servants to David, bearers of tribute. And the LORD saved David wherever he went.
And David took the shields of gold that belonged to the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.
And from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took very much bronze.
And Toi, king of Hamath, heard that David had struck all the army of Hadadezer.
And Toi sent Joram his son to King David, to ask him of his welfare and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him — for Hadadezer had been a man of wars against Toi. And in his hand were vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of bronze.
These also King David consecrated to the LORD, with the silver and the gold that he had consecrated from all the nations he subdued:
from Aram, and from Moab, and from the sons of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek, and from the spoil of Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah.
And David made a name for himself when he returned from striking down Aram in the Valley of Salt — eighteen thousand.
And he set garrisons in Edom; in all Edom he set garrisons, and all Edom became servants to David. And the LORD saved David wherever he went.
David’s Officers
And David reigned over all Israel; and David was doing justice and righteousness for all his people.
And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;
and Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were priests; and Seraiah was scribe;
and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were priests.
