The Lantern

II John1

A Greeting from the Elder

The elder, to the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth — and not I only, but also all those who have known the truth —

because of the truth that abides in us and will be with us to the age:

Grace, mercy, peace will be with us from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

Walking in the Truth

I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, just as we received commandment from the Father.

And now I ask you, lady — not as writing a new commandment to you, but the one we have had from the beginning — that we love one another.

And this is love: that we walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you walk in it.

Beware of Deceivers

For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those not confessing Jesus Christ coming in flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.

Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have worked for, but may receive a full reward.

Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ does not have God. The one who abides in the teaching, this one has both the Father and the Son.

If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into the house, and do not tell him to rejoice;

for the one telling him to rejoice partakes in his evil works.

Conclusion

Having many things to write to you, I did not want to with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and to speak mouth to mouth, so that our joy may be complete.

The children of your elect sister greet you.
