Jehoshaphat Reproved by Jehu
And Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, returned to his house in peace, to Jerusalem.
And Jehu the son of Hanani, the seer, went out to his face and said to King Jehoshaphat: “Should you help the wicked, and love those who hate the LORD? For this, wrath is on you from before the LORD.
Yet good things are found in you — for you have burned away the Asherah poles from the land, and have set your heart to seek God.”
Jehoshaphat’s Reforms
And Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem; and he went out again among the people, from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim, and brought them back to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
And he set standing judges in the land, in all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city.
And he said to the judges: “See what you are doing — for you are not judging for man, but for the LORD; and he is with you in the matter of judgment.
And now, let the dread of the LORD be on you. Take care and act — for with the LORD our God there is no injustice, and no lifting of faces, and no taking of a bribe.”
And also in Jerusalem, Jehoshaphat set standing some of the Levites and the priests, and some of the heads of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of the LORD and for disputes. And they returned to Jerusalem.
And he commanded them, saying: “Thus you shall do — in the fear of the LORD, in faithfulness, and with a whole heart.
And every dispute that comes to you from your brothers who live in their cities — between blood and blood, between instruction and commandment, statutes and judgments — you shall warn them, so that they do not become guilty before the LORD, and wrath come on you and on your brothers. Thus you shall do, and you will not become guilty.
And look — Amariah the head priest is over you for every matter of the LORD, and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the leader of the house of Judah, for every matter of the king; and the Levites are before you as officers. Be strong and act — and may the LORD be with the good.”
