II Chronicles17

Jehoshaphat Reigns in Judah

And Jehoshaphat his son became king in his place; and he strengthened himself over Israel.

And he put forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had captured.

And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat — for he walked in the earlier ways of David his father, and did not seek the Baals;

for he sought the God of his father, and walked in his commandments — and not according to the practice of Israel.

And the LORD established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah gave tribute to Jehoshaphat, and he had riches and honor in abundance.

And his heart rose high in the ways of the LORD; and moreover, he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.

And in the third year of his reign he sent his officials — Ben-hail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethanel, and Micaiah — to teach in the cities of Judah;

and with them the Levites — Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.

And they taught in Judah, and with them was the book of the instruction of the LORD; and they went around through all the cities of Judah, and taught among the people.

And the dread of the LORD came on all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, and they did not make war with Jehoshaphat.

And some of the Philistines were bringing Jehoshaphat tribute, and silver as a load; and the Arabians too were bringing him flocks: seven thousand seven hundred rams, and seven thousand seven hundred male goats.

And Jehoshaphat kept growing exceedingly great; and he built in Judah fortresses and storage cities.

And he had much work in the cities of Judah; and men of war, mighty men of valor, were in Jerusalem.

And this was their mustering, by the houses of their fathers. Of Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valor;

and at his hand, Jehohanan the commander, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand;

and at his hand, Amasiah the son of Zichri, who gave himself willingly to the LORD, and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor.

And of Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield;

and at his hand, Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand equipped for the army.

These were serving the king, besides those the king had put in the fortified cities in all Judah.
