On my watch I will stand, and I will station myself on the rampart; and I will keep watch to see what he will speak in me, and what I shall answer concerning my rebuke.
And the LORD answered me and said: Write the vision and make it plain on the tablets, so that the one reading it may run.
For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it pants toward the end and does not lie. If it lingers, wait for it; for it will surely come, it will not delay.
See, the swollen one — his being is not upright within him; and the righteous will live by his faithfulness.
And moreover, wine is treacherous; a haughty man, and he does not rest — he who has widened his appetite like Sheol, and he is like death and is not satisfied. And he gathers to himself all the nations and collects to himself all the peoples.

Will not all of these take up a proverb against him, and a figure of riddles for him? And one will say: Woe to the one multiplying what is not his — how long? — and making heavy on himself the pledges.
Will not your creditors rise up suddenly, and those shaking you awake? And you will become plunder for them.
Because you have spoiled many nations, all the rest of the peoples will spoil you — for human blood, and the violence of the earth, of the town and all who dwell in it.
Woe to the one gaining an evil gain for his house, to set his nest on high, to be delivered from the palm of evil!
You have counseled shame for your house, cutting off many peoples; and you are sinning against your own being.
For a stone cries out from the wall, and a beam from the woodwork answers it.
Woe to the one building a town with blood and founding a city with injustice!
Is it not, look, from the LORD of hosts that peoples labor for fire and nations weary themselves for emptiness?
For the earth will be filled with the knowing of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover over the sea.
Woe to the one making his neighbor drink — pouring out your wrath, and making him drunk as well — in order to look on their nakedness!
You are filled with dishonor rather than glory. Drink, you also, and be uncovered! The cup of the LORD’s right hand will come around to you, and disgrace upon your glory.
For the violence of Lebanon will cover you, and the devastation of beasts will shatter them — for human blood, and the violence of the earth, of the town and all who dwell in it.
What use is a carved image, that its maker has carved it — a cast image and a teacher of falsehood — that the maker of his own form trusts in it, to make mute idols?
Woe to the one saying to the wood, “Wake up!” — “Rouse yourself!” to the silent stone. Will it teach? See, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all within it.
But the LORD is in his holy temple. Hush before him, all the earth!
