Genesis45

Joseph Reveals His Identity

And Joseph could not control himself before all who stood by him, and he called out, “Send everyone away from me!” And no man stood with him when Joseph made himself known to his brothers.

And he gave his voice to weeping — and Egypt heard, and the house of Pharaoh heard.

And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph. Is my father still alive?” And his brothers could not answer him, for they were terrified before his face.

And Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, please.” And they came near. And he said, “I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt.

And now, do not be grieved, and let it not burn in your eyes that you sold me here — for it was to preserve life that God sent me ahead of you.

For these two years the famine has been in the midst of the land, and there are still five years in which there will be no plowing or harvest.

And God sent me ahead of you to establish a remnant for you on the earth, and to keep you alive for a great deliverance.

And now — it was not you who sent me here, but God. And he has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and ruler over all the land of Egypt.

Joseph Sends for His Father

Hurry, go up to my father, and say to him, ‘Thus says your son Joseph: God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; do not delay.

And you shall live in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near me — you, and your sons, and your sons’ sons, and your sheep and your cattle, and all that is yours.

And I will provide for you there — for there are still five years of famine — or you will come to poverty, you and your house and all that is yours.’

And look — your own eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my own mouth speaking to you.

And you shall tell my father all my honor in Egypt, and all that you have seen. And hurry, and bring my father down here.”

And he fell on the neck of Benjamin his brother and wept, and Benjamin wept on his neck.

And he kissed all his brothers and wept over them. And after that, his brothers talked with him.

Pharaoh Invites Jacob to Egypt

And the sound was heard in Pharaoh’s house: “Joseph’s brothers have come.” And it was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his servants.

And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Say to your brothers, ‘Do this: load your animals, and go — enter the land of Canaan,

and take your father and your households, and come to me. And I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and you shall eat the fat of the land.’

And you are commanded — ‘Do this: take wagons for yourselves from the land of Egypt for your little ones and for your wives, and carry your father, and come.

And let your eye not look with regret on your belongings — for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours.’”

And the sons of Israel did so. And Joseph gave them wagons at the mouth of Pharaoh, and he gave them provisions for the way.

To all of them he gave each man changes of garments; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver and five changes of garments.

And to his father he sent likewise: ten donkeys carrying the good things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys carrying grain and bread and food for his father for the way.

And he sent his brothers off, and they went. And he said to them, “Do not quarrel on the way.”

The Revival of Jacob

And they went up from Egypt and came to the land of Canaan, to Jacob their father.

And they told him: “Joseph is still alive — and indeed he is ruler over all the land of Egypt.” And his heart went numb, for he did not believe them.

And they spoke to him all the words of Joseph that he had spoken to them; and he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to carry him — and the spirit of Jacob their father revived.

And Israel said, “Enough! Joseph my son is still alive. Let me go and see him before I die.”
