Galatians3

Faith and Belief

O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?

This only I wish to learn from you: did you receive the Spirit by works of law or by hearing of faith?

Are you so foolish? Having begun in Spirit, are you now being perfected in flesh?

Did you suffer so many things in vain — if indeed even in vain?

Therefore the one supplying the Spirit to you and working miracles among you — is it by works of law or by hearing of faith?

Just as Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.

Know then that those of faith, these are sons of Abraham.

And the Scripture, having foreseen that God justifies the Gentiles by faith, evangelized beforehand to Abraham: “In you all the nations will be blessed.”

So then those of faith are blessed along with believing Abraham.

Christ Has Redeemed Us

For as many as are of works of law are under a curse; for it has been written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all the things written in the book of the law, to do them.”

And that no one is justified by law before God is evident, because “The righteous will live by faith”;

and the law is not of faith, but “The one having done these things will live by them.”

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us — since it has been written: “Cursed is everyone hanging on a tree” —

so that to the Gentiles the blessing of Abraham might come in Christ Jesus, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

The Purpose of the Law

Brothers, I speak according to man: even a man’s ratified covenant no one sets aside or adds to.

Now to Abraham were spoken the promises, and to his seed. It does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one: “And to your seed,” who is Christ.

Now this I say: the covenant confirmed beforehand by God, the law having come four hundred and thirty years afterward does not annul, so as to nullify the promise.

For if the inheritance is by law, it is no longer by promise; but God has granted it to Abraham through a promise.

Why then the law? It was added because of the transgressions, until the seed should come to whom the promise has been made, having been ordained through angels in the hand of a mediator.

Now a mediator is not of one, but God is one.

Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Never would it be! For if a law had been given that was able to impart life, righteousness would indeed have been from law.

But the Scripture imprisoned all things under sin, so that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to those believing.

But before faith came we were held in custody under law, being locked up until the faith about to be revealed.

So the law has become our trainer unto Christ, so that we might be justified by faith;

but faith having come, we are no longer under a trainer.

Sons through Faith in Christ

For you are all sons of God through the faith in Christ Jesus;

for as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, heirs according to promise.
