Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are prophesying, and say to those who prophesy out of their own heart: Hear the word of the LORD.
Thus says the Lord GOD: Woe to the foolish prophets, who walk after their own spirit and have seen nothing!
Like foxes among the ruins your prophets have been, Israel.
You have not gone up into the breaches, nor walled up a wall for the house of Israel, to stand in the battle on the day of the LORD.
They have seen emptiness and a lying divination, those who say: The utterance of the LORD — and the LORD has not sent them; and they hope for the word to be confirmed.
Have you not seen an empty vision and spoken a lying divination, when you say: The utterance of the LORD — and I have not spoken?
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have spoken emptiness and seen a lie, therefore, see, I am against you — the utterance of the Lord GOD.
And my hand will be against the prophets who see emptiness and divine a lie. In the council of my people they will not be, and in the writing of the house of Israel they will not be written, and to the land of Israel they will not come; and you will know that I am the Lord GOD.
Because, yes because, they have led my people astray, saying: Peace — and there is no peace; and one builds a flimsy wall, and see, they are plastering it with whitewash.
Say to those plastering with whitewash that it will fall. There will be a flooding rain; and you, hailstones, will fall, and a storm wind will break it open.
And see, the wall has fallen. Will it not be said to you: Where is the plaster you plastered?
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: I will break open a storm wind in my wrath, and a flooding rain will come in my anger, and hailstones in wrath, to finish it.
And I will demolish the wall that you plastered with whitewash and bring it down to the ground, and its foundation will be uncovered; and it will fall, and you will be consumed in her midst; and you will know that I am the LORD.
And I will finish my wrath on the wall and on those plastering it with whitewash, and I will say to you: The wall is no more, and those plastering it are no more —
the prophets of Israel who prophesy to Jerusalem and see for her a vision of peace, and there is no peace, the utterance of the Lord GOD.
Reproof of False Prophetesses
And you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who prophesy out of their own heart, and prophesy against them.
And say: Thus says the Lord GOD: Woe to the women who sew bands on every wrist and make veils for the head of every height, to hunt souls! Will you hunt the souls of my people and keep souls alive for yourselves?
And you have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for scraps of bread, to put to death souls that should not die and to keep alive souls that should not live, by your lying to my people who listen to a lie.
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: See, I am against your bands with which you hunt the souls there like birds, and I will tear them from your arms; and I will let go the souls, the souls you hunt like birds.
And I will tear your veils and deliver my people from your hand, and they will no longer be in your hand to be hunted; and you will know that I am the LORD.
Because you have grieved the heart of the righteous with falsehood, when I had not grieved him, and have strengthened the hands of the wicked so that he does not turn from his evil way to be kept alive —
therefore you will not see emptiness or divine divinations again; and I will deliver my people from your hand, and you will know that I am the LORD.
