Amos6

Woe to Those at Ease in Zion

Woe to those at ease in Zion and those trusting in the mountain of Samaria — the designated of the first of the nations, to whom the house of Israel comes!

Cross over to Calneh and see; and go from there to Hamath the great; and go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms? Is their border greater than your border?

You who put far off the evil day and bring near the seat of violence,

who lie on beds of ivory and sprawl on their couches, and eat lambs from the flock and calves from the midst of the stall;

who improvise to the mouth of the harp — like David they devise for themselves instruments of song;

who drink wine in basins and anoint themselves with the first of oils, and are not grieved over the breaking of Joseph.

Therefore now they will go into exile at the head of the exiles, and the revelry of those who sprawl will be removed.

The Pride of Israel

The Lord GOD has sworn by himself — the utterance of the LORD, the God of hosts: I abhor the pride of Jacob and I hate his citadels, and I will hand over the city and its fullness.

And it will be, if ten men remain in one house, they will die.

And his uncle will lift him up, and the one who burns him, to bring the bones out of the house. And he will say to the one in the innermost part of the house, “Is there anyone still with you?” And he will say, “No one.” And he will say, “Hush! For we must not mention the name of the LORD.”

For look, the LORD is commanding, and he will strike the great house into fragments and the little house into clefts.

Do horses run on the rock? Does one plow with oxen there? For you have turned judgment to poison, and the fruit of righteousness to wormwood —

you who rejoice in what is nothing, who say, “Have we not by our own strength taken horns for ourselves?”

For look, I am raising up against you, house of Israel — the utterance of the LORD, the God of hosts — a nation; and they will oppress you from Lebo-hamath to the Wadi of the Arabah.
