Hear this word, cows of Bashan who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to their masters, “Bring, and let us drink!”
The Lord GOD has sworn by his holiness: Look, days are coming upon you when he will carry you away with hooks, and the last of you with fish hooks.
And through the breaches you will go out, each woman straight ahead, and you will be flung to Harmon — the utterance of the LORD.
Come to Bethel and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression. And bring your sacrifices in the morning, your tithes on the third day.
And burn a thank offering from what is leavened, and proclaim freewill offerings, make them heard — for so you have loved, sons of Israel — the utterance of the Lord GOD.
And I myself also gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places; and you did not return to me — the utterance of the LORD.
And I myself also withheld the rain from you, while there were still three months to the harvest; and I sent rain on one city, and on another city I did not send rain. One plot would be rained on, and the plot on which it did not rain would dry up.
And two or three cities staggered to one city to drink water, and were not satisfied; and you did not return to me — the utterance of the LORD.
I struck you with blight and with mildew; the many gardens of yours, and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees, the cutting locust devoured; and you did not return to me — the utterance of the LORD.
I sent among you pestilence in the manner of Egypt; I killed your young men with the sword, along with the captivity of your horses; and I made the stench of your camps go up, and into your nostrils; and you did not return to me — the utterance of the LORD.
I overthrew among you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a brand plucked from a burning; and you did not return to me — the utterance of the LORD.
Therefore thus I will do to you, Israel — because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, Israel!
For look — the one forming mountains and creating wind, and declaring to man what his thought is, the one making dawn into darkness and treading on the high places of the earth: the LORD, the God of hosts, is his name.
