Declareye in Judah,and publishin Jerusalem;and say,Blowye the trumpetin the land:cry,gather together,and say,Assembleyourselves, and let us gointo the defencedcities.
Set upthe standardtoward Zion:retire,staynot: for I will bringevilfrom the north,and a greatdestruction.

Destructionupon destructionis cried;for the whole landis spoiled:suddenlyare my tentsspoiled,andmy curtainsin a moment.
How long shall I seethe standard,andhearthe soundof the trumpet?
For my peopleisfoolish,they have not knownme; theyaresottishchildren,and they have none understanding:theyarewiseto do evil,but to do goodthey have no knowledge.
I beheldthe earth,and, lo,it waswithout form,and void;and the heavens,and theyhadno light.
I beheldthe mountains,and, lo, they trembled,and all the hillsmoved lightly.
I beheld,and, lo,there wasno man,and all the birdsof the heavenswere fled.

Andwhenthouartspoiled,what wilt thou do?Though thou clothestthyself with crimson,though thou deckestthee with ornamentsof gold,though thou rentestthy facewith painting,in vainshalt thou make thyself fair;thyloverswill despisethee, they will seekthy life.
For I have hearda voiceas of a woman in travail,andthe anguishas of her that bringeth forth her first child,the voiceof the daughterof Zion,thatbewailethherself,thatspreadethher hands,saying, Woeisme now! for my soulis weariedbecause of murderers.
