Judahmourneth,and the gatesthereof languish;they are blackunto the ground;and the cryof Jerusalemis gone up.
And their nobleshave senttheir little onesto the waters:they cameto the pits,andfoundno water;they returnedwith their vesselsempty;they were ashamedand confounded,and coveredtheir heads.
Because the groundis chapt,for there was no rainin the earth,the plowmenwere ashamed,they coveredtheir heads.
Yea, the hindalso calvedin the field,and forsookit, because there was no grass.
And the wild assesdid standin the high places,they snuffed upthe windlike dragons;their eyesdid fail,becausethere wasno grass.
O LORD,though our iniquitiestestifyagainst us, dothouitfor thy name'ssake: for our backslidingsare many;we have sinned
O the hopeof Israel,the saviourthereof in timeof trouble,why shouldest thou be as a strangerin the land,and as a wayfaring manthatturneth asideto tarry for a night?
Why shouldest thou be as a manastonied,as a mighty manthatcannotsave?yet thou, O LORD,artin the midstof us, and we are calledby thy name;leave
Thus saiththe LORDunto this people,Thus have they lovedto wander,they have not refrainedtheir feet,therefore the LORDdoth not acceptthem; he will now remembertheir iniquity,and visittheir sins.
Then saidthe LORDunto me, Praynot for this peoplefortheirgood.
When they fast,I will not heartheir cry;and when they offerburnt offeringand an oblation,I will not acceptthem: but I will consumethem by the sword,and by the famine,and by the pestilence.
Then saidI, Ah,LordGOD!behold, the prophetssayunto them, Ye shall not seethe sword,neither shall ye have famine;but I will giveyou assuredpeacein this place.
Then the LORDsaidunto me, The prophetsprophesyliesin my name:I sentthem not, neither have I commandedthem, neither spakeunto them: they prophesyunto you a falsevisionand divination,and a thing of nought,and the deceitof their heart.
Therefore thus saiththe LORDconcerning the prophetsthat prophesyin my name,and I sentthem not, yet they say,Swordand famineshall not be in this land;By swordand famineshall those prophetsbe consumed.
And the peopleto whom they prophesyshall be cast outin the streetsof Jerusalembecauseof the famineand the sword;and they shall have none to burythem,them, their wives,nor their sons,nor their daughters:for I will pourtheir wickedness
Therefore thou shalt saythis wordunto them; Let mine eyesrun downwith tearsnightand day,and let them not cease:for the virgindaughterof my peopleis brokenwith a greatbreach,with a verygrievousblow.
If I go forthinto the field,then behold the slainwith the sword!and if I enterinto the city,then behold them that are sickwith famine!yea, both the prophetand the priestgo aboutinto a landthat they know
Hast thou utterlyrejectedJudah?hath thy soullothedZion?why hast thou smittenus, andthere isno healingfor us? we lookedfor peace,andthere isno good;and for the timeof healing,and behold trouble!
We acknowledge,O LORD,our wickedness,andthe iniquityof our fathers:for we have sinned
Do not abhorus, for thy name'ssake, do not disgracethe throneof thy glory:remember,breaknot thy covenant
Are thereanyamong the vanitiesof the Gentilesthat can cause rain?or can the heavensgiveshowers?artnot thou he, O LORDour God?therefore we will waitupon thee: for thou hast made
