The Vision of the Flying Scroll

Then I turned, and lifted up my eyes, and looked, and look a flying roll.

"They sank in the depth like a stone." Why "did they sink in the depth like a stone"? Because they were not the kind of "stones which sons of Abraham could be raised up" but the kind which love the depth and desire the liquid element, that is, who seize the bitter and fluid desire of present things.

(Chapter 5, verses 1 onwards) Then I turned and lifted up my eyes, and behold, a flying scroll! And he said to me, "What do you see?" I answered, "I see a flying scroll; its length is twenty cubits, and its width ten cubits." Then he said to me, "This is the curse that is going out over the face of the whole land.

As to the suggestion you made in your letter that we should examine together the nature of an oath extorted by force, I beg of you, do not let our discussion turn crystal-clear matters into murky ones.

And he said to me, What do you see? And I answered, I see a flying roll; its length is twenty cubits, and its breadth ten cubits.

Then he said to me, This is the curse that goes forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that steals shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that swears shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

I will bring it forth, says the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that swears falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with its timber and its stones.

The Vision of the Woman in a Basket

Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said to me, Lift up now your eyes, and see what is this that goes forth.

And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goes forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth.

And indeed, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sits in the midst of the ephah.

And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon its mouth.

Then lifted I up my eyes, and looked, and indeed, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.

Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Where do these bear the ephah?

And he said to me, To build it a house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.
