And Balaamlifted uphis eyes,and he sawIsraelremainingin his tentsaccording to their tribes;and the spiritof Godcame upon him.
And he took uphis parable,and said,Balaamthe sonof Beorhas said,and the manwhose eyesare openhas said:
He has said,which heardthe wordsof God,which sawthe visionof the Almighty,fallinginto a trance, but having his eyesopen:
How fineare your tents,O Jacob,andyour tabernacles,O Israel!
As the valleysare they spread forth,as gardensby the river’s side,as the trees of lign aloeswhich the LORDhas planted,andas cedar treesbeside the waters.
He shall pourthe wateroutof his buckets,and his seedshall bein manywaters,and his kingshall be higherthan Agag,and his kingdomshall be exalted.
Godbrought him forthout of Egypt;he has as it were the strengthof a unicorn:he shall eat upthe nationshis enemies,and shall breaktheir bones,and piercethemthrough with his arrows.
He couched,he lay downas a lion,and as a great lion:who shall stir him up?Blessedishe that blessesyou, and cursedishe that cursesyou.
Balak Dismisses Balaam
And Balak’sangerwas kindledagainst Balaam,and he struckhis handstogether:and Balaksaidto Balaam,I calledyou to cursemy enemies,and indeed, you have altogetherblessedthemthese threetimes.
Therefore now fleeyou to your place:I thoughtto promoteyou to greathonor;but, look, the LORDhas kept you backfrom honor.
And Balaamsaidto Balak,SpokeI not also to your messengerswhich you sentto me, saying,
If Balakwould giveme his housefullof silverand gold,I cannotgo beyondthe commandmentof the LORD,to doeithergoodor badof my own mind;butwhat the LORDsays,that will I speak?
And now, look, I goto my people:cometherefore, andI will advertiseyou what this peopleshall doto your peoplein the latterdays.
Balaam’s Fourth Oracle
And he took uphis parable,and said,Balaamthe sonof Beorhas said,and the manwhose eyesare openhas said:
He has said,which heardthe wordsof God,and knewthe knowledgeof the most High,whichsawthe visionof the Almighty,fallinginto a trance, but having his eyesopen:
I shall seehim, but not now: I shall lookhim, but not near:there shall comea Starout of Jacob,and a Sceptershall riseout of Israel,and shall strikethe cornersof Moab,and destroyall the childrenof Sheth.
And Edomshall be a possession,Seiralso shall be a possessionfor his enemies;and Israelshall dovaliantly.
Out of Jacobshall come he that shall have dominion,and shall destroyhim that remainsof the city.
Balaam’s Final Three Oracles
And when he lookedon Amalek,he took uphis parable,and said,Amalekwasthe firstof the nations;but his latterendshall bethat he perishfor ever.
And he lookedon the Kenites,and took uphis parable,and said,Strongis your dwellingplace,and you putyour nestin a rock.
Nevertheless the Keniteshallbe wasted,until Asshurshall carry you away captive.
And he took uphis parable,and said,Alas,who shall livewhen Goddoesthis!
And shipsshall comefrom the coastof Chittim,and shall afflictAsshur,and shall afflictEber,and he also shall perishfor ever.
And Balaamrose up,and wentand returnedto his place:and Balakalso wenthis way.
