But it happened within a while after, in the time of wheat harvest, that Samson visited his wife with a kid; and he said, I will go in to my wife into the chamber. But her father would not allow him to go in.
And her fathersaid,I trulythoughtthat you had utterlyhatedher; therefore I gaveher to your companion:isnot her youngersisterfairerthan she? take her, I pray you, instead of her.
And Samsonsaidconcerning them, Nowshall I be more blamelessthan the Philistines, though I dothem a displeasure.
And Samsonwentand caughtthreehundredfoxes, and tookfirebrands, and turnedtailto tail, and putafirebrandin the midstbetween twotails.
And when he had setthe brandson fire,he letthemgointo the standing grainof the Philistines, and burnt upboth the shocks, and also the standing grain, with the vineyardsandolives.
Then the Philistinessaid,Who has donethis? And they answered,Samson, the son in lawof the Timnite, because he had takenhis wife, and givenher to his companion. And the Philistinescame up,and burnther and her fatherwith fire.
And Samsonsaidto them, Thoughyou have donethis, yet will I be avengedof you, and afterthat I will cease.
And he struckthem hipandthighwith a greatslaughter:and he went downand dweltin the topof the rockEtam.
Then the Philistineswent up,and pitchedin Judah, and spreadthemselves in Lehi.
And the menof Judahsaid,Why have you come upagainst us? And they answered,To bindSamsonhave we come up,to doto him as he has doneto us.
Then three thousand men of Judah went to the top of the rock Etam, and said to Samson, Do you not know that the Philistines are rulers over us? what is this that you have done to us? And he said to them, As they did to me, so have I done to them.
And they saidto him, We have come downto bindyou, that we may deliveryou into the handof the Philistines. And Samsonsaidto them, Swearto me, that you will not fall uponme yourselves.
And they spoketo him, saying,No; but we will bindyou fast, and deliveryou into their hand:but surelywe will not killyou. And they boundhim with twonewcords, and brought him upfrom the rock.
Andwhen he cameto Lehi, the Philistinesshoutedagainsthim: and the Spiritof the LORDcame mightilyupon him, and the cordsthatwereupon his armsbecame as flaxthat was burntwith fire, and his bandsloosedfrom off his hands.
And he founda newjawboneof a donkey, and put forthhis hand, and tookit, and slewa thousandmenwith it.
And Samsonsaid,With the jawboneof a donkey,heapsupon heaps,with the jawof a donkeyhave I slaina thousandmen.
And it happened, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand, and called that place Ramath-lehi.
And he was soreathirst, and calledon the LORD,and said,You have giventhis greatdeliveranceinto the handof your servant:and now shall I diefor thirst, and fallinto the handof the uncircumcised?
But God clave a hollow place that was in the jaw, and there came water thereout; and when he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: therefore he called its name En-hakkore, which is in Lehi to this day.
