And it happened in the fourhundredand eightiethyearafter the childrenof Israelhad come outof the landof Egypt,in the fourthyearof Solomon’sreignover Israel,in the monthZif,which is the secondmonth, that he began to buildthe houseof the LORD.
And the house which king Solomon built for the LORD, its length was sixty cubits, and its breadth twenty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.
And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was its length, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was its breadth before the house.
And for the househe madewindowsof narrowlights.
The Chambers
And against the wallof the househe builtchambersround about, against the wallsof the houseround about, both of the templeand of the oracle:and he madechambersround about:
The nethermostchamberwas fivecubitsbroad, and the middlewas sixcubitsbroad, and the thirdwas sevencubitsbroad:for without in the wall ofthe househe madenarrowed restsround about, that the beams should not be fastenedin the wallsof the house.
And the house, when it was in building, was builtof stonemade readybefore it was broughtthere: so that there was neither hammernor axenor any toolof ironheardin the house, while it was in building.
The doorfor the middlechamberwas in the rightsideof the house:and they went upwith winding stairsinto the middlechamber, and out of the middleinto the third.
So he builtthe house, and finishedit; and coveredthe housewith beamsand boardsof cedar.
And then he builtchambersagainst all the house, fivecubitshigh:and they restedon the housewith timberof cedar.
God’s Promise to Solomon
And the wordof the LORDcame to Solomon, saying,
Concerning this housewhich you are in building,if you will walkin my statutes, and executemy judgments, and keepall my commandmentsto walkin them; then will I performmy wordwith you, which I spoketo Davidyour father:
And I will dwellamongthe childrenof Israel, and will not forsakemy peopleIsrael.
The Temple’s Interior
So Solomonbuiltthe house,and finishedit.
And he builtthe wallsof the housewithinwith boardsof cedar, both the floorof the house, and the wallsof the cieling:and he coveredthem on the insidewith wood, and coveredthe floorof the housewith planksof fir.
And he builttwentycubitson the sidesof the house, boththe floorand the wallswith boardsof cedar:he even builtthem for it within, even for the oracle, even for the mostholyplace.
And the house, that is, the templebeforeit, was fortycubitslong.
And the cedarof the housewithinwas carvedwith knopsand openflowers:all was cedar;there was no stoneseen.
And the oraclehe preparedinthe housewithin,to setthere the arkof the covenantof the LORD.
And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in its height: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar.
So Solomonoverlaidthe housewithinwith puregold:and he made a partitionby the chainsof goldbeforethe oracle;and he overlaidit with gold.
And the whole househe overlaidwith gold, until he had finishedall the house:also the whole altarthat was by the oraclehe overlaidwith gold.
The Cherubim
And within the oraclehe madetwocherubimof olivetree, each tencubitshigh.
And fivecubitswas the onewingof the cherub, and fivecubitsthe otherwingof the cherub:from the uttermost partof the one wingto the uttermost partof the otherwere tencubits.
And the othercherubwas tencubits:boththe cherubimwere of onemeasureand onesize.
The heightof the onecherubwas tencubits, and so was it of the othercherub.
And he setthe cherubimwithinthe innerhouse:and they stretched forththe wingsof the cherubim,so that the wingof the onetouchedthe one wall, and the wingof the othercherubtouchedthe otherwall;and their wingstouchedoneanotherin the midstof the house.
And he overlaidthe cherubimwith gold.
And he carvedall the wallsof the houseround aboutwith carvedfiguresof cherubimand palm treesand openflowers, withinand without.
And the floorof the househe overlaidwith gold, withinand without.
The Doors
And for the enteringof the oraclehe madedoorsof olivetree:the linteland side postswere a fifth partof the wall.
The twodoorsalso were of olivetree;and he carvedupon them carvingsof cherubimand palm treesand openflowers, and overlaidthem with gold, and spreadgoldupon the cherubim, and upon the palm trees.
So also he made for the door of the temple posts of olive tree, a fourth part of the wall.
And the twodoorswere of firtree:the twoleavesof the onedoorwere folding, and the twoleavesof the otherdoorwere folding.
And he carvedon it cherubimand palm treesand openflowers:and coveredthem with goldfittedupon the carved work.
The Courtyard
And he builtthe innercourtwith threerowsof hewed stone, and a rowof cedarbeams.
In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month Zif:
And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all its parts, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.
