And Elijahthe Tishbite,who was of the inhabitantsof Gilead,saidto Ahab,As the LORDGodof Israellives,beforewhom I stand,there shall not be dewnor rainthese years,but accordingto my word.
And the wordof the LORDcame to him, saying,
Getyou hence, and turnyou eastward,and hideyourself by the brookCherith,that is beforeJordan.
And it shall be, that you shall drinkof the brook;and I have commandedthe ravensto feedyou there.
So he wentand didaccording to the wordof the LORD:for he wentand dweltby the brookCherith,that is beforeJordan.
And the ravensbroughthim breadand fleshin the morning,and breadand fleshin the evening;and he drankof the brook.
And it happened aftera while,that the brookdried up,because there had been no rainin the land.
The Widow of Zarephath
And the wordof the LORDcame to him, saying,
Arise,getyou to Zarephath,which belongs to Sidon,and dwellthere: look, I have commandeda widowwomanthere to sustainyou.
So he aroseand wentto Zarephath.And when he cameto the gateof the city,look, the widowwomanwas there gatheringof sticks:and he calledto her, and said,Fetchme, I pray you, a littlewaterin a vessel,that I may drink.
And as she was goingto fetchit, he calledto her, and said,Bringme, I pray you, a morselof breadin your hand.
And she said,As the LORDyour Godlives,I havenot a cake,but a handfulof mealin a barrel,and a littleoilin a cruse:and indeed, I am gatheringtwosticks,that I may go inand dressit for me and my son,that we may eatit, and die.
And Elijahsaidto her, Fearnot; goand doas you have said:but makeits mea littlecakefirst,and bringit to me, and aftermakefor you and for your son.
For thus saysthe LORDGodof Israel,The barrelof mealshall not waste,neither shall the cruseof oilfail,until the daythat the LORDsendsrainuponthe earth.
And she wentand didaccording to the sayingof Elijah:and she, and he, and her house,did eatmany days.
And the barrelof mealwastednot, neither did the cruseof oilfail,according to the wordof the LORD,which he spokebyElijah.
Elijah Raises the Widow’s Son
And it happened afterthese things,that the sonof the woman,the mistressof the house,fell sick;and his sicknesswas sosore,that there was no breathleftin him.
And she said to Elijah, What have I to do with you, O you man of God? have you come to me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
And he saidto her, Giveme your son.And he tookhim out of her bosom,and carried him upinto a loft,where he remained,and laidhim upon his own bed.
And he criedto the LORD,and said,O LORDmy God,have you also brought evilupon the widowwith whom I sojourn,by slayingher son?
And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried to the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray you, let this child’s soul come into him again.
And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
And Elijahtookthe child,and brought him downout of the chamberinto the house,and deliveredhim to his mother:and Elijahsaid,See,your sonlives.
And the womansaidto Elijah,Now by thisI knowthat you are a manof God,and that the wordof the LORDin your mouthis truth.
