Say to your brothers, Ammi; and to your sisters, Ru-hamah.
Pleadwith your mother,plead:for sheisnot my wife,neitheramI her husband:let her therefore put awayher prostitutionout of her sight,and her adulteriesfrom between her breasts;
Lest I stripher naked,and sether as in the daythat she was born,and makeher as a wilderness,and sether like a dryland,and slayher with thirst.
And I will not have mercyupon her children;for theybethe childrenof prostitution.
For their motherhas played the prostitute:she that conceivedthem has done shamefully:for she said,I will goaftermy lovers,that givememy breadand my water,my wooland my flax,my oiland my drink.
Therefore, look, I will hedgeup your waywith thorns,and makea wall,that she shall not findher paths.
And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.
For she did not knowthat I gaveher grain,and wine,and oil,and multipliedher silverand gold,whichthey preparedfor Baal.
Therefore will I return, and take away my grain in its time, and my wine in its season, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.
And now will I discoverher lewdnessin the sightof her lovers,and noneshall deliverher out of my hand.
I will also cause all her merrimentto cease,her feast days,her new moons,and her Sabbaths,and all her solemn feasts.
And I will destroyher vinesand her fig trees,of which she has said,Thesearemy rewardsthat my lovershave givenme: and I will makethem a forest,and the beastsof the fieldshall eatthem.
And I will visitupon her the daysof the Baals,in which she burned incenseto them, and she deckedherself with her earringsand her jewels,and she wentafterher lovers,and forgotme, saysthe LORD.
God’s Mercy to Israel
Therefore, look, I will allureher, and bringher into the wilderness,and speakcomfortablyto her.
And I will giveher her vineyardsfrom there, and the valleyof Achorfor a doorof hope:and she shall singthere, as in the daysof her youth,and as in the daywhen she came upout of the landof Egypt.
And it shall be at that day,saysthe LORD,thatyou shall callme Ishi;and shall callme no more Baali.
For I will take awaythe namesof the Baalsout of her mouth,and they shall no more be rememberedby their name.
And in that daywill I makea covenantfor them with the beastsof the field,and with the birdsof heaven,andwiththe creeping thingsof the ground:and I will breakthe bowand the swordand the battleout of the earth,and will make them to lie downsafely.
And I will betrothyou to me for ever;yes, I will betrothyou to me in righteousness,and in judgment,and in loving devotion,and in mercies.
I will even betrothyou to me in faithfulness:and you shall knowthe LORD.
And it shall happen in that day,I will hear,saysthe LORD,I will hearthe heavens,and they shall hearthe earth;
And the earthshall hearthe grain,and the wine,and the oil;and they shall hearJezreel.
And I will sow her to me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, You are my people; and they shall say, You are my God.
