O LORD,how long shall I cry,and you will not hear!evencry outto youofviolence, and you will not save!
Why do you showme iniquity, and causemeto seegrievance?for plunderingand violencearebefore me: and there arethatraise upstrifeand contention.
Therefore the lawis slacked, and judgmentdoes nevergo forth:for the wickeddoes compassabout the righteous;therefore wrongjudgmentproceeds.
The LORD’s Answer
Lookyou among the pagans, and regard, and wondermarvelously:forIwill worka workin your days, whichyou will not believe, though it be toldyou.
For, look, I raise upthe Chaldeans, thatbitterand hastynation, which shall marchthrough the breadthof the land,to possessthe dwellingplacesthat are not theirs.
Theyareterribleand dreadful:their judgmentand their dignityshall proceedof themselves.
Their horsesalso are swifterthan the leopards, and are more fiercethan the eveningwolves:and their horsemenshall spreadthemselves, and their horsemenshall comefrom far;they shall flyas the eaglethathastensto eat.
They shall comeall for violence:their facesshall sup upasthe east wind, and they shall gatherthe captivityas the sand.
And they shall scoffat the kings, and the princesshall be a scornto them: they shall derideevery strong hold;for they shall heapdust, and takeit.
Then shallhismindchange, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputingthishis powerto his god.
Habakkuk’s Second Complaint
Are you not from everlasting, O LORD my God, my Holy One? we shall not die. O LORD, you have ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, you have established them for correction.
You are of purer eyes than to see evil, and cannot look on iniquity: why do you look upon them that deal treacherously, and hold your tongue when the wicked devours the man that is more righteous than he?
And makemenas the fishof the sea,as the creeping things, that haveno rulerover them?
They take upall of them with the angle, they catchthem in their net,and gatherthem in their drag:therefore they rejoiceand are glad.
Therefore they sacrificeto their net,and burn incenseto their drag;because by themtheir portionisfat, and their foodplenteous.
Shall they therefore emptytheir net,and not sparecontinuallyto slaythe nations?
