And they took their journeyfrom Elim, and all the congregationof the childrenof Israelcameto the wildernessof Sin,whichisbetween Elimand Sinai,on the fifteenthdayof the secondmonthafter their departing outof the landof Egypt.
And the whole congregationof the childrenof Israelmurmuredagainst Mosesand Aaronin the wilderness:
And the childrenof Israelsaidto them, Would to Godwe had diedby the handof the LORDin the landof Egypt, when we satby the fleshpots, andwhen we did eatbreadto the full;for you have brought us forthinto this wilderness,to killthis whole assemblywith hunger.
Then saidthe LORDto Moses,Look, I will rainbreadfrom heavenfor you; and the peopleshall go outand gathera certain rateevery day, that I may provethem, whether they will walkin my law,or no.
And it shall happen, that on the sixthdaythey shall preparethatwhichthey bring in;and it shall be twiceas much as they gatherdaily.
And Mosesand Aaronsaidto all the childrenof Israel,At even, then you shall knowthat the LORDhas brought you outfrom the landof Egypt:
And in the morning, then you shall seethe gloryof the LORD;for that he hearsyour murmuringsagainst the LORD:and whatarewe, that you murmuragainst us?
And Mosessaid,This shall be, when the LORDshall giveyou in the eveningfleshto eat,and in the morningbreadto the full;for that the LORDhearsyour murmuringswhich you murmuragainst him: and whatarewe?your murmuringsarenot against us, but against the LORD.
And Mosesspoketo Aaron,Sayto all the congregationof the childrenof Israel,Come nearbeforethe LORD:for he has heardyour murmurings.
And it happened, as Aaronspoketo the whole congregationof the childrenof Israel, that they lookedtoward the wilderness, and indeed, the gloryof the LORDappearedin the cloud.
And the LORDspoketo Moses,saying,
I have heardthe murmuringsof the childrenof Israel:speakto them, saying,At evenyou shall eatflesh, and in the morningyou shall be filledwith bread;and you shall knowthat Iamthe LORDyour God.
And it happened, that at eventhe quailscame up,and coveredthe camp:and in the morningthe dewlayround aboutthe host.
And when the dewthat laywas gone up,look, upon the faceof the wildernessthere laya smallround thing, assmallas the hoar froston the ground.
And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they knew not what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.
This is the thing which the LORD has commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take every man for them which are in his tents.
And the childrenof Israeldidso, and gathered, some more, some less.
And when they did meteitwith an omer,he that gathered muchhad nothing over, and he that gathered littlehad no lack;they gatheredevery manaccordingto his eating.
And Mosessaid,Let no manleaveof it till the morning.
However they listenednot to Moses;but someof them leftof it until the morning, and it bredworms, and stank:and Moseswas angrywith them.
And they gatheredit every morning, every manaccordingto his eating:and when the sungrew hot,it melted.
The Sabbath Observed
And it happened, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
And he saidto them, Thisis thatwhich the LORDhas said,Tomorrowisthe restof the holySabbathto the LORD:bakethatwhich you will baketoday, and seethethat you will seethe;and that whichremains overlay upfor you to be keptuntil the morning.
And they laid it uptill the morning,as Mosesbade:and it did not stink, neither was there any wormtherein.
And Mosessaid,Eatthat today;for todayisa Sabbathto the LORD:todayyou shall not findit in the field.
Sixdaysyou shall gatherit; but on the seventhday, which isthe Sabbath,in it there shall be none.
And it happened, thatthere went outsomeof the peopleon the seventhdayto gather, and they foundnone.
And the LORDsaidto Moses,How long refuseyou to keepmy commandmentsand my laws?
See,for that the LORDhas givenyou the Sabbath, therefore he givesyou on the sixthdaythe breadof two days;remainyou every manin his place, let no mango outof his placeon the seventhday.
So the peoplerestedon the seventhday.
The Jar of Manna
And the house of Israel called its name Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.
And Mosessaid,Thisisthe thingwhich the LORDcommands,Fillan omerof it to be keptfor your generations;that they may seethe breadwith which I have fedyou in the wilderness, when I brought you forthfrom the landof Egypt.
And Mosessaidto Aaron,Takeapot, and putan omerfullof mannatherein, and lay it upbeforethe LORD,to be keptfor your generations.
As the LORDcommandedMoses,so Aaronlaid it upbeforethe Testimony,to be kept.
And the childrenof Israeldid eatmannafortyyears, until they cameto a landinhabited;they did eatmanna, until they cameto the bordersof the landof Canaan.
