Then PashursmoteJeremiahthe prophet,and puthim in the stocksthatwerein the highgateof Benjamin,whichwasby the houseof the LORD.
And it came to pass on the morrow,that Pashurbrought forthJeremiahout of the stocks.Then saidJeremiahunto him, The LORDhath not calledthy namePashur,but Magormissabib.
For thus saiththe LORD,Behold, I will makethee a terrorto thyself, and to all thy friends:and they shall fallby the swordof their enemies,and thine eyesshall beholdit: and I will giveall Judahinto the handof the kingof Babylon,and he shall carry them captiveinto Babylon,and shall slaythem with the sword.
Moreover I will deliverall the strengthof this city,and all the laboursthereof, and all the precious thingsthereof, and all the treasuresof the kingsof Judahwill I giveinto the handof their enemies,which shall spoilthem, and takethem, and carrythem to Babylon.
And thou, Pashur,and all that dwellin thine houseshall gointo captivity:and thou shalt cometo Babylon,and there thou shalt die,and shalt be buriedthere, thou, and all thy friends,to whom thou hast prophesiedlies.
O LORD,thou hast deceivedme, and I was deceived:thou art strongerthan I, and hast prevailed:I am in derisiondaily,every one mocketh
For sinceI spake,I cried out,I criedviolenceand spoil;because the wordof the LORDwas made a reproachunto me, and a derision,daily.
Then I said,I will not make mentionof him, nor speakany more in his name.Buthis wordwas in mine heartas a burningfireshut upin my bones,and I was wearywith forbearing,and I could
For I heardthe defamingof many,fearon every side.Report,say they, and we will reportit. All my familiarswatchedfor my halting,saying, Peradventure he will be enticed,and we shall prevailagainst him, and we shall takeour revenge
But the LORDiswith me as a mightyterrible one:therefore my persecutorsshall stumble,and they shall not prevail:they shall be greatlyashamed;for they shall not prosper:theireverlastingconfusionshall never be forgotten.
But, O LORDof hosts,that triestthe righteous,andseestthe reinsand the heart,let me seethy vengeanceon them: for unto thee have I openedmy cause.
Singunto the LORD,praiseye the LORD:for he hath deliveredthe soulof the poorfrom the handof evildoers.
Cursedbethe daywherein I was born:let not the daywherein my motherbareme be blessed.
Cursedbethe manwho brought tidingsto my father,saying,A manchildis bornunto thee; making him veryglad.
And let that manbe as the citieswhich the LORDoverthrew,and repentednot: and let him hearthe cryin the morning,and the shoutingat noontide;
Because he slewme not from the womb;or that my mothermight have been my grave,and her wombto bealwaysgreat
